REMEMBERING CHURCH HISTORIAN A. M. MUNDADAN CMI by Prof.

George Menachery I am indeed glad to see an extensive and exhaustive write-up on the venerable Ch urch Historian the beloved Dr. Mathias Mundadan. I would suggest that a book of remniscences and tributes be published on Fr. Mundadan without much delay. I myself first contacted Fr. Mundadan in 1970 at the instruction of the late Jos eph Cardinal Parecattil who at our first discussion on the publication of the St . Thomas Christian Encyclopaedia of India, on 15th October 1970 asked me to cont act three persons who might be able to provide further inputs to the Encyclopaed ia: Fr. Placid, Fr. Hambye, and Fr. Mathias.Fr. Mundadan agreed to write two maj or articles and to be on the Board of Editorial Consultants, and what is more he invited my collaboration in many of his major projects, such as the Historical and Cultural Exhibition (Dharmaram, 1972), The Southern India CHAI Triennial Con ference (Alwaye 1979 ?), CHAI National Triennial (Alwaye and Ernakulam 1985), Se cond Alwaye National Triennial 2002, establishment of Jeevass Kendra, various Je evass exhibitions and seminars, and a number of other undertakings. I mention th is because these works themselves give some idea of the continuous interest he h ad in the study and propagation of the history and culture of the Church in Indi a in general, and the Syro Malabar Church in particular. The very illuminating a rticle he has written for "India's Christian Heritage" musbe read by all seminar ians and budding historians (CHAI Platinum Jubilee Volume). Lots and lots of hap py memories rush to one's mind as one goes through the homage paid by his confre re. - Prof. George Menachery
