Education commissioner search to be extended

James Call, 09/20/2012 - 02:48 PM THE FLORIDA CURRENT,

The Florida Board of Education has scheduled an emergency conference call on Tuesday to extend the application deadline in the search for a new education commissioner. Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson resigned in July and departed Aug. 31. His one-year tenure as commissioner was marred by a collapse of students scores on standardized tests and a mix-up in school grades. Two weeks ago, Ray and Associates, a nationwide executive search company identifying candidates to replace Robinson, had suggested it would recommend extending the Sept. 17 application deadline. At the time Ray and Associates Bill Adams told the board if highly qualified candidates didnt step forward by the deadline ... then we might request additional time. Advertised salary for the Florida education Commissioner is up to $275,000 annually. K-12 Chancellor Pam Stewart is serving as interim commissioner until Robinsons replacement is found.
