Giant Jackfruit The odd-looking jackfruit thrives in Indonesia's wet equatorial climate. The edible fruit grows on vines that hang from trees, and it looks like a yellow-green beehive. Left on the tree, a single jackfruit can grow to a weight of 36 kilograms (79 pounds), the largest commercially grown fruit. Under its thick, warty skin is delicious pulp imbedded with large seeds.

The bureau of plant and industry needs jack fruit seedlings for tree planting throughout the country. If 1 538 schools will participate giving 15 120 seeds each, how many seeds can be collected by the bureau?

Lattice Multiplication
Each square is divided diagonally. The multiplicand is written on top and the multiplier on the right side outside the box. Every entry in a square is the product of a digit in one factor and a digit of the other factor. The entry maybe a one-digit product or a 2-digit product. In case of a 2-digit product, the digit in the upper half of the square is to be regrouped to the next higher place value. The entries in each row are the partial products of one factor. Adding the numbers in the diagonals is the same as adding the partial products column by column.
