Hylocereus polyrhizus or dragon fruit is among the most nutritious and wonderful exotic fruits available in Malaysia.

Hylocereus polyrhizus is originated from Latin America is a member in the Cactaceae family (Stintzing et al., 2002). The main purposes of this research are to produce a

biodegradable dyes in ink, manage the waste products from fruits and reduce the use of carbon in the ink. Besides that, we also want to produce ink from fruit peels that are user friendly (free chemical substances) and to improve the safety of inks consumers. The production of ink from the natural sources helps us to reduce the cost.

The production of the ink includes the extraction of the peels of the pitaya fruits. One of the steps that can be found in the extraction of the peels is the adding of ethanol and let it immersed about 2 or 3 days. The colour will be get from the peels and do the distillation process to get the dye.

The production of this natural ink brings about many benefits. The natural ink that we produced is biodegradable because the waste of the natural sources that we used can be composed. Also, the ink have less side effects because we used less chemical substances that can affect our health, thus it have high safety factors. In addition, it is also green environmental protective as we used the peels of the fruit in order to reduce the waste. Besides that, the cost of producing these ink also less than that of the synthetic ink as the natural ink used less chemical substance.
