1. A moment resisting connection between two flat plates consists of 6, M12 8.8 bolts arranged and loaded as in the Figure. Both plates are S275 steel and 10mm thick. a. Calculate the magnitude of the shear force in each bolt ignoring the eccentricity of the load (assume the load indicated is factored appropriately). b. Calculate the magnitude of the additional shear force in each bolt due to the eccentricity of the load. c. Hence determine the design shear force in each bolt. Remember that forces add vectorially. d. Check the most critically loaded bolt according the EC3.
