Solution to Challenge # 1

For Years 6 to 8
Find the next 2 numbers in the sequence: 2, 6, 30, 210, 2310
The key to solving this problem is to write the numbers as products of their prime factors. i.e. the numbers are: 2, (2 x 3), (2 x 3 x 5), (2 x 3 x 5 x 7), (2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 11) .. So the next 2 numbers are: (2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 11 x 13) and (2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 11 x 13 x 17) In other words

30030 and 510510

For Years 9 to 12 If x and y are positive integers for which 2 x3y = 1296, find (x+y)
The key to solving this is to try to write 1296 as the product of a power of 2 and a power of 3. This soon leads to 1296 = 16 x 81 i.e
