A person with the demonstrated education, experience, and knowledge as defined by this information and who successfully passes the required examinations is considered qualified as an AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng.). The CWEng. is capable of directing those operations associated with weldments and other types of joints that are completed in accordance with the appropriate contract documents, codes, and other standards to produce a satisfactory product. The welding engineers activities begins before production or construction welding and continues through the production process then ending when the production process is complete.
Do You Qualify?
In order to qualify as a Certified Welding Engineer, you must have a combination of qualifying education and work experience, with supporting documentation, as follows: Minimum Education Minimum Work Experience 1 Year
Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Engineering Technology Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degrees Diploma in Applied Science or Engineering SPM / SPVM / SKM / GCE O Level or equivalent

Examination
Part 1 Basic Science Fundamental (Closed Book): Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Part 2 Applied Science Fundamental (Closed Book): Strength of Materials, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics, and Electricity. Part 3 Welding Related Disciplines (Open Book): NDE/Weld Discontinuities, Welding Heat Sources and Arc Physics, Welding Processes and Controls, Welding and Joining Metallurgy, Weld Design, Brazing and Soldering, and Safety. Part 4 Practical Welding and Related Applications (Open Book): Welding safety, weldment design, welding metallurgy, materials, welding process selection, NDE including visual weld inspection, quality assurance, quality control in accordance with codes, specifications, other standards, and/or drawings. Certification condition: Candidate must passed Part 1 & Part 2 examination before eligible for Part 3 & Part 4 examination.

2.1 Strength of Materials Load, deformation, stressstrain, Youngs Modulus, shear modulus, stress-strain curve, tensile stress and shear stress computation; welded member crosssection effect; mechanical testing and data interpretation; Law of Conservation of Energy/Momentum; stress analysis; typical engineering material properties.
