View from a Window Self-Evaluation and Critique


How does what we see affect what we draw?
Project Guidelines Artists will create A View from a Window with the window being the emphasis of the project. First, students will plan by drawing the view from the window, including interior details of where the window is located. Details must be realistic including objects and/or people. Composition of the window and details should be interesting and creative. All pencil lines will be outlined in crayon to resist the watercolor which will be the final step. Artists are required to paint with consistency and precision; paying attention to detail and managing impulsivity. Importance of original and imaginative ideas is emphasized. Required Materials Crayon for tracing lines Watercolor

Technique/Style Being Applied Impressionism, watercolor painting, realistic drawing and creativity.

Critiquing Artwork Avoid all judgmental comments; do not use I like.. I dont like Describe, analyze and interpret. What is the first thing you see? Why does this stand out? What else seems important in the artwork? What is the significance of the elements, composition, color, etc? What feelings and meaning does this artwork give? What title could you give this artwork? What is something that could be added or changed to make it more unified? How is the technique used for expression of creativity?
