Summer of Love to Woodstock

Behind the Lens With Lisa Law

Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) is proud to present photographer and documentary artist Lisa
Law in the Encore Gallery, May 24 – June 28, 2009. Lisa has specialized in documenting history
as she has experienced it; as a mother, writer, photographer and
social activist. Her work reveals distinct communities of people
as she uses her camera like a powerful weapon to champion the
rights of her subjects.

Lisa Law’s counterculture photographs provide the viewer with

iconic scenes of the 1960’s: California, rock stars, commune life in
New Mexico and Woodstock. Over the past four decades, Law’s
images have chronicled the social and cultural changes in America.
Her exhibit in the Encore Gallery will focus on her Summer of Love
to Woodstock images, celebrating the 40th anniversary. The TCA
will also screen Lisa’s film “Flashing on the Sixties.”

Come meet Lisa Law at the Encore Gallery Opening Reception and book signing,
Sunday, May 24, 4:30-6:30 pm, followed by her film,
“Flashing on the Sixties,” starring Dennis Hopper at 6:45pm.
Taos Community Auditorium, 145 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos, NM

There will be a question and answer session afterwards. On Law’s website, Hopper describes
the film as “the most compelling, moving documentary of the Sixties”. The opening reception
is free and open to the public; tickets to the film are $7, TCA Members $6. Lisa’s book with the
same title will be available for sale as well as her photographs.
Taos Center for the Arts is honored to feature this important female artist/activist.
