The oa:ng eect created by the lower ligh:ng really caught my eye.

I liked the organic feel that the wooden material gave to the space.

I was aLracted to the circular shape of this desk.

The circular shape links in with the logo and wave shapes.

LIGHTING

Spot lights going up the stairs. As the stairs are the same material as the ooring the lights will make the stairs more obvious to the users, making it safer.

is lighting will be at di erent lengths to create a wave shape which is a similar shape to the college logo.

Light blue LED lighting will run along the ooring of the corridor on both sides; the straight and curved walls.

I wanted simple lights for the ceiling for the reception area. ese lights will be placed around the room to give a harmonious lighting feel to the space.

e desk lighting will consist of lighting at the bottom which will give a oating e ect, in addition to lighting behind the desk at the upper level which will give the receptionists more light when working.

Around the logo there will be LED blue lighting to make the logo stand out from the wall. It will be the rst thing people see when they enter the reception area.

ATRIUM VISUALS
1. e main lighting for the atrium. It is in the shape of a wave with the lights getting longer towards the middle. is lighting will have a dimmer option therefore when it is sunny, they can be at a lower intensity. With the large windows either side there will be lots of natural light ooding in during midday in the summer. is glass separation helps to divide the entrance with the display/exhibition area. I used glass instead of a wall to make sure the room felt spacious. ere are two projectors which will be used to project students work against the wall. e glass shelves will hold students work, for example sculptures. e back wall is white to allow the projector to project students work onto a clean, at and white surface to get the best quality. I decided to raise the exhibition area slightly to create a di erent feel and to make it feel like your moving into a completely new space. It also helps to separate it from the entrance area. I le a great deal of space in the entrance area to allow a good ow of people and prevent tra c during busy times.

The outside wall of the atrium will be a green wall with the logo and Itchen College cut out. The logo and name will be clear glass around the green wall. I think this gives a modern and sustainable feel to the school. This is also one of the rst things people will see. It is dierent and intriguing.

RECEPTION VISUALS
1. Students First area. 2. Shelves for broachers, information and the school magazines. I placed them to the side of the reception desk so that it doesnt get in the way of the ow of people moving through to the main school area. erefore people looking at the information and broachers will be able to take there time without getting in the way. 3. Curved feature wall, painted blue. Part of the theme is curves and waves, therefore I thought I would incorporate the shape into the design. 4. Low oor blue lighting along the edges of the curved wall and the walk way wall. is should encourage people to follow this path through to the main school without stopping in the reception area causing tra c. 5. Reception waiting area. It is placed in the corner to prevent people who are waiting getting in the way of people who are walking through to the main building. 6. e atrium and reception area are not divided by doors as the ow of people will be able to ow more easily this way. 7. Pictures of students work and students around the school, all along the walk way. This will make the space more personal to the students as it is there work. 8. e school logo will be surrounded by blue lights to make it stand out. e logo will also be raised out of the wall slightly. 9. e o ce area behind the reception. e post will also be stored here so that it isnt creating clutter at the reception desk. 10. e change of material encourages the ow of people to walk from the atrium and carry on into the main school area. is should prevent tra c and crowds of people forming in the reception area.

e concept of the reception area was to create a spacious, welcoming and modern space. In addition, the interiors should reect the logo which was white and blue with a curved logo. e reception desk is the rst thing you see once you pass the atrium, therefore making it very easier for visitors to nd and prevent them getting lost. e glass atrium will allow natural light ow into the reception area, creating a warm and inviting space. ere is various lighting e ects around the reception area to add to atmosphere and enhance the design.
