Write Chapter 24
Instructions: The Giver ends at chapter 23 where Jonas slides down the hill towards a mysterious and friendly community. For this project you will write the next chapter that documents what happens to Jonas after chapter 23. This project is a creative writing assignment that should be done INDIVIDUALLY. This chapter should be approximately 2-3 pages in length (DOUBLE SPACED). Include strong figurative language, appropriate transitions, and vivid details. Be sure to include elements of the story that we have discussed already, and make sure that the story flows logically into your new ending. Due Monday, April 15th

Focus areas: 1.) Style (10 points) a. Varied sentence structure, vivid figurative language, sensory details, and characterization. 2.) Content (10 points) a. Make sure your story is an appropriate addition to the novel. Your writing should flow logically from The Giver, characters should remain the same, and your story elements should not jar your reader from the original story. 3.) Conventions (10 points) a. Sentence structure, fragments, spelling, punctuation, etc. 4.) In-Class Effort (10 points) a. Spending class time doing productive, thoughtful work b. Staying on task and not distracting others

Tableau
What is a tableau? A group of models or motionless figures representing a scene from a story. A picture of a scene from the novel depicting one of the major events of the story. Instructions: With a partner, stage a series of 4 pictures that show 4 major scenes from the novel. These scenes should be ones easily depicted in a single picture. (For example Jonas and Asher having catch with an apple.) Make sure you choose scenes from the novel that you will be able to discuss and explain why they are important to the story as a whole. Once you have staged your scenes and taken your pictures, each group member must compose a one-page explanation in which you discuss what you chose to include in the pictures and why you chose those particular scenes. Note: You will be responsible for bringing in props for your photos that we do not normally have in our classroom. You will also be responsible for the use of a camera. If you dont have access to a camera, come talk to me. Due Monday, April 15th Focus areas:
1. Creativity (10 points) a. Students should stage photographs that show a well-thought-out visual representation of major scenes. 2. Content (10 points) a. Rosemarys Story
What happened to her?

We dont know, we never saw her again.


Instructions: This is a creative writing assignment where you tell Rosemarys side of the story. We all know that she was selected to be the new Receiver of Memory, but after a few short weeks she requested to be released, letting loose all of the memories into the community. For this assignment, you will compose a 2-3 page creative writing piece in which you tell us Rosemarys story through a journal entry or third person account. That might include her experiences as a child, her Assignment at the Ceremony of Twelve, or her interactions with the Giver its all up to you! Your story must be 2-3 typed double spaced pages. Be sure to include strong figurative language, appropriate transitions, and vivid details. Due Monday, April 15th Focus areas:

Cover Art

Instructions: For this project you will work alone to design new artwork for the cover of The Giver! We are a little tired of just the old man and the apple, so be creative! You must put together a full cover design, and include the books title and authors name. You must also compose a one-paragraph (6-8 sentence) artists note that accompanies your cover art. In your paragraph, you must explain why you chose the images that you did, and how they represent major themes of the story. (If you are working with a partner, you both must turn in individual artist notes.) Due Monday, April 15th Focus areas: 1.) Creativity (10 points)
