Intended Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to recognize cyber-bullying, understand the consequences, and demonstrate effective methods of solving the problem. Vocabulary: Cyber-bullying: using technology to harass, intimidate, or threaten another person. Common Forms of Cyberbullying (Hinduja and Patchin, 2009)

Flaming and Trolling sending or posting hostile messages intended to iname the emotions of others Happy-Slapping recording someone being harassed or bullied in a way that usually involves physical abuse, then posting the video online for public viewing Identity Theft/Impersonation stealing someones password and/or hijacking their online accounts to send or post incriminating or humiliating pictures, videos, or information Photoshopping doctoring digital images so that the main subject is placed in a compromising or embarrassing situation Physical Threats sending messages that involve threats to a persons physical safety Rumor Spreading spreading gossip through e-mail, text messaging, or social networking sites

Modeling Show the students Utah Teens Facing New Kind of Facebook Bullying report from Utah news station. After viewing tell students that this is an issue even here in Utah and that we need to be aware of when it happens, how it happens and what to do if it happens to you or you see someone doing it. Guided Practice II. What problems can be created by cyber-bullying? Pair/Share Activity:

Give each student one of the three activity sheets found in the materials section of this lesson plan. Ask students to read through the scenario and answer the questions on their own. Have each student share their solution to the problem with a partner who studied the same scenario. Next, have 2 pairs who were given the same scenario share their solutions. Finally, have all students in the class who were given the same scenario (8-10 in each group) share the solutions generated and vote on the best solution. Each group should choose a spokesperson to describe the scenario to the class and then explain the solution agreed upon by the group. Jigsaw Activity: Create small groups of 3 from the 3 large groups (one student from each of the large groups. These 3 students with explain the solution to their scenario agreed upon by the large group they came from. Check for Understanding Teacher will bring entire class back together and randomly choose students to share solutions to the 3 scenarios with the entire class. Students will then take short Exit Ticket Quiz. Independent Practice/Assessment Plan/Closure: Have student create a Public Service Announcement about cyberbullying using Digital Storytelling. Students will write a script, create a storyboard, lm, photograph, create or nd music and edit these elements in iMovie. Students will use Cyber Bullying PSA Rubric as guide for creating PSA. Each class will watch the PSAs from their peers and choose the best PSA to be shown school-wide on announcements or during homeroom.
