A warm welcome to the rst years and their parents and of course a sincere congrats to all of you.

I just accessed the roll list of students an hour back and I was seriously surprised. Out of 45 students we have, 28 are girls and just 17 boys. When I joined NITC it was the other way round. And architecture is the only branch where we can have such a miracle. Few things of general interest every one of you should know. The ASA, Architecture Students Association is the general body comprising of architecture students of NIT Calicut. And as of now, you too are a part of it. The body facilitates between the students and the staff and caters to most of the student based activities whether they are culture based or competitions of various sorts. We celebrate Onam, Deewali in a stupendous fashion. And believe me, you wont miss your family. Music and dance play an important part as well. Photography has its own amazing role. Students have been active in many competitions lately. Some of the seniors have won major design competitions. We stood rst at the Kannur Airport Terminal Design where the winners won 1,50,000 rupees. A thing of more interest is the NASA- National Association of Students of Architecture. It is the nation wide body of architecture students. Our performance at NASA had been credible last year. We were ranked the 3rd best college at Zonal NASA, Coimbatore and got special mention for one trophy. At annual NASA we got special mention for the University of Westminster International Design Competition. And this year we plan to enrich it. Top 10 thesis in India. One of us also won the 2nd prize in all india photography competition organized by ADARSh. Archi- Tathva which is a part of the main Tathva- the technical festival of NITC. The department now ranks 5th in India. So yea the facilities are great, opportunities to excel are immense. One has to just work hard, focus and enjoy. You just have to strike the right balance.
