RECIT #6: July 26, 2013 (Deadline) Topics: Work, Kinetic Energy, Power Lecturer: Philip Jordan D.

Blancas Recit Teacher: ______________ Name:____________________ Instruction: This recit quiz should be answered individually. Write your complete solution legibly and box your final answer. If the checker cannot understand your solution, your answer should be wrong. Please make sure that you write your name in your recit paper, because I impose NO NAME, NO SCORE POLICY. Maximum possible score: 10/10. A. A block of mass m = 2.50kg is pushed by a constant force F as shown in the figure below. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the inclined plane is k = 0.100. The block accelerates upward at 1.50m/s2. The block is initially stationary, and it moves by a distance of 0.500m along the inclined plane.

1. Draw the free body for the block. (0.50 point)

2. Write down the equations of motion of the block along x and y axes. (0.50 point each)

3. From your answer in (2), what is the value of F so that the block accelerates at 1.50m/s2? (2 points)

4. What are the works done by force F, by the gravity, and by the friction on the block? (0.50 point each)

5. What is the total work done on the block? (1 point)

6. Using work kinetic energy theorem, what is the speed of the block as it moves by 0.500m along the inclined plane? (1 point)

B. You pulled a 10.0kg block using a light string in a manner as shown in the figure below. Pulley 1 is suspended in the ceiling, while pulley 2 moves with the block. The pulleys used are massless. How much power you should supply so that the block moves upward at the speed of 5.00m/s? (2 points)

C. Consider the plot of the variable force F(x). This variable force points to the positive x axis. What is the work done by this variable force as the object moves from the origin to x = 4.00m? (1 point)
