Getting to Know Each Other

Who am I? Zulhizzan Ishak I am a PE with 19 years in Oil & Gas industry primarily in Offshore Structures , HSE & Project Engineering including in Shell Group. Presently Director of JRI Resources Sdn Bhd, a marine service provider for oil & gas industry. Now, how about saying something about yourself?....

Questions covered in next 2 days

What is Metocean? What different types of offshore structures are there? How are they selected, designed, build & installed? How are they used to keep our production facilities above water.

Objectives of this training module

To introduce the differences and advantages/disadvantages of various onshore, shallow & deepwater offshore field development concepts. To describe the different technical concepts for onshore and offshore field development together with their ranges of application. To identify critical issues, further data requirements and critical factors from opportunity identification, design, construction/fabrication and installation activities. Explain some key methods of fabrication, erection and installation of structures. Understand the interface systems with wells, process facilities, pipelines and subsea equipment. Describe the main factors influencing topside & substructure design and/or reanalysis of existing offshore structures. Recognize the requirement of inspection and maintenance and current developments to reduce the costs of offshore structures.

Why Offshore Oil & Gas?

600BC 1950s Onshore oil exploration, development & production. Basic and crude technology including wooden structures, buckets & batch production. 1934 - The first floating drilling rig reported in the Caspian Sea 1933 - The Texas Company introduced the first submersible drilling barge which was used in the estuaries (Lake Pelto) Louisiana 1950s and 60s: Nationalization of assets in many countries, OPEC formed & US became a net Oil importer. 1970s: Oil supply & price shocks leading to high prices 1980s and 90s: Move out to deep water as onshore & shallow areas matured. Political instability across many producer nations in middle east in particular. Offshore drive arise primarily to reduced amount of local politics involved with respect to land acquisition, access, etc., become much simpler offshore.
