Dear Parents, Welcome to the 2013-14 school year at Prospect Charter School! I am excited to be joining the staff this year and working with the children of this community. I will be teaching Middle School Language Arts, World History for 6th grade and an elective called Natural Resources. I believe that education is truly a partnership between parents, teachers, school staff, and community. Together we can create a wonderful learning experience for our children. My door is always open for input, feedback, or a friendly hello. I will be setting aside time specifically for the purpose of responding to parent e-mails and calls every Tuesday from 3 6 pm and Thursdays during lunch from 11:15 11:45 am. I look forward to hearing from you, whether it is to talk about your childs progress or an idea you have for parent -community involvement this year.
Natural Resources Curriculum: This year in this exciting new elective, I will be drawing from Project Learning Tree, Project WILD, and Project WET curriculum. We will be engaging in community projects that the students design and implement: for example, a community service project in partnerships with local forestry organizations or growing produce for local families in the greenhouse. We will explore the relationship between people and the environment, looking at multiple perspectives and learning how to speak and listen respectfully to views that may be different from our own. From air quality and energy to agriculture and recycling, we will discover what is happening today and imagine what we can do to be part of a bright future on our shared planet.

I am creating a website with a calendar of lessons and assignments so that you can follow along with our progress in the classroom and know what students may have missed while absent. Together we can ensure our children stay up to date and thrive in the classroom. Most student work and projects will be housed and displayed in the classroom. Occasionally, I will assign homework and ask for your signature on it. I will periodically send home letters to be initialed, permission slips, and progress reports. My goal is to contact each students parent at least twice this year to let you know something great your child has accomplished. I am excited to go on this journey with you. Lets make this a great year! Sincerely warm wishes, Hannah Kolni Prospect Charter School HannahK@Prospect.K12.or.us; 541-560-3654 ext. 248
