important dates:

We are finishing Unit 3 this week. Our test will be on Friday. This unit we have be introduced the the American Tour, a year long data project. We also examined properties of basic plane figures and the use of geometry tools. Students learned how to use compasses, rulers, protractors, and their Geometry Template. Lastly, the students learned about tessellations with polygons. If your child is confused about any material make sure they review the videos online to get extra practice!

Students will be reflecting on their work this year to create a portfolio. They will look for and identify their strengths and weaknesses. We will learn how to write a SMART goal and students will conference individually with my to write their SMART goals based on their MAP data. This weeks reading skill is sequencing and the reading strategy is inferring. We will be reading the story Hold the Flag High. The grammar skill of the week is possessive nouns. Students will be working through centers to get extra practice on the weekly skills and strategy.

Language arts:

Current events will continue this week. This week is the blue group (#1-5 will turn in written current events and #6-10 will give oral presentations). This is a great opportunity for students to be a global citizen. On Tuesday we will have our first Mystery Skype of the year. Our class will receive a call from another class somewhere in the world. Both classes will ask questions and will have to use their inferring skills to figure out where the other class is located. Students gain practice on 21st century skills throughout the call by working in groups and using their problem solving skills.

The class reached their goal for class points. We will celebrate with a PJ party on Friday afternoon. Please make sure to email me the times that work for a conference.
