GE | Imagination at Work | Technology | Innovation | General Electric. Retrieved October 1, 2013, from http://www.ge.com/thegeshow/flight/#ch2 Grade Level: 6 Subject: Science Brief Description of Activity: Students will go to this website: http://www.learnalberta.ca/content/setf/HTML/StudentResource/source/Welcome.html and click on the flight tower labeled 5. Students will follow all direction and participate in this self-taught lesson about how gliders work and how designs effect how they fly. Once completed students can put their learning to practice by building an effective airplane online: http://www.ge.com/thegeshow/flight/#ch2 General Learner Outcome: Construct devices that move through air, and identify adaptations for controlling flight. Specific Learner Outcomes: 3. Conduct tests of glider designs; and modify a design so that a glider will go further, stay up longer or fly in a desired way; e.g., fly in a loop, turn to the right.. ICT Outcomes: C1 - 1.1 access and retrieve appropriate information from electronic sources for a specific inquiry C4 - 2.2 organize information, using such tools as a database, spreadsheet or electronic webbing F1 4.1 assess the strengths and weaknesses of computer simulations in relation to realworld problems F3 1.1 demonstrate courtesy and follow classroom procedures when making appropriate use of computer technologies F3 1.2 work collaboratively to share limited resources F3- 3.1 use time and resources on the network P5 1.2 access hyperlinked sites on an intranet or the Internet

Rationale for Computer Integration: Computers have been integrated into this assignment to allow students to learn in a different way. The chosen assignment also allows students to participate in self-directed learning at their own pace. Once the learning is completed students will then get to put it in action by designing an effective airplane. If they have paid attention and learned in the lesson the airplane will be effective.

Search strategies employed: To find both links I used Google. For the first link I searched glider game Alberta I was first looking for an activity for students but came across this great source. For the second link I searched build an airplane game as I was looking for another activity. I then came across this website : http://www.juniorflyer.com/posts/design-your-own-aircraft/ which then linked me to the game I have used in my lesson.
