ALTERNATE THEORY ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the Elements and Principles of Design that we have discussed in class. This is an optional assignment that will be used to contribute to the THEORY component of your course work this term. Please follow the instructions carefully to ensure your success with this assignment. Choose ONE of the above images to discuss. Using your Art Glossary that was distributed in class as well as your notes for the Elements and Principles of Design you will write a short paper that discusses the piece of art that you have chosen. Your paper should be approximately 3/4 of a page to one page double-spaced. Considering the discussion that we had for the numerous slides shown in class, you will choose at least THREE elements or principles of design that you feel are best applied in the work of art of your choosing (above). Begin your paper with an introductory statement that introduces the name of the artist, the title of the work and the three elements that you will be discussing. For each of the three elements or principles, please discuss how this element or principle is evident in the work. Using your glossary as a guide, try to use the technical terms for the techniques, styles or methods employed by the artist. Hint: The glossary terms that we discussed and highlighted in class during the slide lectures are the ones that are best applied to the elements and principles of design. Dont forget a concluding sentence that sums up your ideas. This may include a judgement statement that assesses how eectively you feel the artist has applied these elements or principles of design.
