g Outcomes: Economic knowledge and understanding By the end of this lesson, students will begin to understand the workforce, their grossmonthly income and the types of deductions that are made to that income. They will begin to become familiar with their assigned occupation and will develop an understanding of several economic terms. Introduction: Recap on consumer activity: Assist students in understanding why this activity was completed and reiterate the importance of their role as consumers in keeping our economy running. Textbook Page 4 & 5 Activities 1 6 and adding definitions to their glossary THE HIGH FIVE PRINCIPLES OF CAREER DEVELOPMENT - Change is constant - Learning is ongoing - Focus on the Journey - Follow your heart - Access your allies Body of Lesson: Job Allocation The Real Game: have students pick a number out of a hat and provide with the corresponding job. Make note of which job the students were allocated to refer back to in future lessons Allow students 5 minutes to read through their job. Glossary terms to add: Gross Monthly Income: Monthly earnings through employment before deductions. Income Tax: payments imposed by the government for use in running public services (hospitals, schools, roads etc.) Superannuation: a proportion of a persons income that is invested for their retirement. Medicare Levy: a percentage of your income that tax payers pay for the public health system; currently 1.5% of taxable income. Rent: Regular payments made by a tenant to a landlord for the use of property or land. Mortgage: a loan specifically to buy a house or land need something that is necessary for survival

In order to allow students to become familiar with their job title and description they are to complete page 26 of the booklet. Advise students that in the section A day in the life they are to summarise the information on the back of their job description and include 10 dot points. Write instructions on the board (15 minutes) Student will then be asked to complete page 25 which will require the students to walk around the room, discuss certain things about their job with other students and learn about each others occupations by asking questions (15 minutes) Textbook Page 10 11 1.4 and the money goes out Read through pages and activities: 2,3 and 4 Conclusion: Assessment: Reiterate main points Monitoring student responses and ensuring they do not have any misconceptions about the content.
