Write the ending of a story Students will understand that . . . People write to communicate using a variety of means. Thinking about story book characters and people in real life helps us to develop characters in our own stories. When writing, the words we choose and how we choose to use them enable us to share our imaginings and ideas. Essential Questions: What is a narrative? What are the features of narrative writing? What is the purpose of narrative writing? How can we use words to create images?

Knowledge
Students will know . . .(Knowledge) How to use imagery in their stories to enhance their meaning and to make it more enjoyable. That writing can produce a variety of responses from readers. How to tell a story and create characters. Students will be able to . . . (Skills) Identify narrative structures in a text (orientation, complication, resolution). Recognize features of narrative writing. Use appropriate grammar (adjectives, saying and thinking verbs, past tense, quoted speech, action verbs). Pre-Assessment: Students will write their own ending to a story which is read aloud in class. Performance Tasks: Students will write the ending of narrative (Boris and Amos) Teacher will read aloud the story and stop before the ending.

To be done within grade level and cross grade. Learning Experiences: (include differentiation) Create a storyboard for their narratives. Descriptive language and grammar mini lessons Reading narratives in class Deconstructing different narratives to determine the structure. Alternative endings wall. Students will predict the ending of an unfamiliar story. Students will write a different ending to a familiar story. What makes a resolution successful? How do authors give clues to readers about the ending of the story. Research unfamiliar content for narrative writing. Students will re-tell narratives out loud. Students will jointly research specific topics as required. Similies/metaphors, quoted speech, adjectives, using the 5 sense in writing
