The student will work on one of projects related to the physical and mechanical properties of wood using digital image correlation, yield estimation of lamina from a log, mechanical behavior of connections in wood frame building using finite element method at the Dept. of Wood Science and Engineering. My research experience has focused on the evaluation of the relationship between structure and property on wood materials. I constructed a novel digital image correlation (DIC) testing set up to measure the mechanical behavior of individual earlywood and latewood. With this testing set-up, Poisson ratio of earlywood and latewood was measured for the first time. For macro-scale mechanical analysis of wood materials, I also

order to account for the variation of wood material properties, I constructed stochastic finite element models (SFEM) to simulate mechanical behavior of differently oriented wood strands.
