Skyscraper The air stretches me, becoming my new skin Pulled taut like a drum heads tension.

I stare at the people through floor-to-ceiling window/walls, crouched at their cubes while the building surges skyward. Gravity rides my back, passing floors, descending twenty-eight, twenty-seven, twenty-six, twenty-five, they look so happy on the phone, alive ordering cashew chicken and office supplies. Calling husbands and calling wives, or maybe someone elses wife. Theyre on the phone making sales and telemarketing time shares to lonely people with time to listen and dream of someone elses life. Passing floors twenty-two through nineteen and there I am, staring right back at me. Or maybe its just some burnout loser, searching the gray sky for answers, but the skys resounding response is only some hapless dumbass plummeting past all the floors passed this morning in that moldy elevator slowly shaking. Some guy falling like a tossed stone returning, on his way back home, or wherever the sky and little chickens fall. The air pulls my mouth open and grabs my muffled scream, rips the newly formed tears from my dewy worn eyes. Ive been falling so long that I cant recall whether Im grasping a cord or a note in my palm or a ledge or a thread or a mirror on the wall.
