!enre "daptation Reflection # + chose to adapt Little Red Riding Hood into a news article beca3se + felt li e the ob.io3s approach was to do a modern ta e on the classic fair&tale. The original stor& of Little Red Riding hood was p3blished in #=:C. "lso2 + changed the wording from a .ocab3lar& that wo3ld be fo3nd in a children5s stor& to something a teenager or ad3lt wo3ld be alright with reading alo3d or e.en to tell their peers that the& are reading it. " news article can reach all ages. Honestl&2 if + did not ha.e to read the news for classes that + ta e + wo3ld not read it b3t + am reD3ired to so + do. The same goes for man& people m& age and &o3nger so therefore the a3dience co3ld be &o3nger. The intended a3dience2 li e + said prior2 co3ld reall& be an&one at an& age beca3se of these reasons. 0hildren2 howe.er2 ma& not prefer this .ersion compared to the original beca3se it ma& be harder to 3nderstand and little more scar&. + m&self as a child fo3nd comfort in the fact that fair& tales were so impossible that + had no reason to be scared. Howe.er2 with a news article and changing the wolf into a man2 an e.ent li e this is .er& possible in the real world. ).er&one that has access to the internet has the access to this genre. "lso2 an& who can recei.es a news paper. ,ith the genre t&pe being a news paper the a3dience ma& shift a little to e.en older a3diences. This is beca3se not man& &o3ng people read the paper often2 b3t if it is a good segment it is still possible for &o3nger a3dience members to be attracted. The message is con.e&ed 3sing the same context and theme b3t 73st b& 3sing a different .ocab3lar& that applies to modern times. The challenge was to not too closel& mimmic the original text and to also create a serio3s so3nding news article. "lso2 m3ch li e real news
articles2 a lot of the grim/ gor& details are left o3t from the reader2 + also wanted to be able to tell the original stor& and to send the same message witho3t ma ing it too terrif&ing m3ch li e the original Little Red Riding Hood tr3l& is be&ond the fair&tale aspect. That wo3ld ne.er be fo3nd in a news article a.ailable to mass media. The wolf in the original text eats Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother whole and then the H3ntsman ills the wolf b& chopping open his stomach. + 73st did not feel comfortable writing something that gr3esome into modern terms and + also feel li e no real news article wo3ld be able to either. + thin that this genre meets the needs of most people2 or an&one who has the abilit& to read. +t ma& be more diffic3lt for &o3nger readers to read the stor& and 3nderstand completel& the concepts and meanings of what is going on. + feel li e the ass3mption that news articles are .er& formal do affect the wa& that + had to do things. + had to change m& .ocab3lar& as well as format itself.
!enre "daptation Reflection ; + chose this technolog& based genre beca3se in toda&5s societ& social media is extremel& pre.alent. +n this case + chose one of2 if not the2 most pop3lar media sites2 twitter. Beople from all ages 3se twitter and can read/ 3se the 4text tal .6 ,here a message is con.e&ed 3sing less words2 #EF characters to be exact. + tho3ght of this adaptation beca3se Little Red Riding Hood is a &o3ng girl and most &o3ng girls ha.e social media websites. The intended a3dience is more so teenager and &o3ng ad3lt beca3se the& ha.e grown 3p in this generation of shorter and simpler sentences. ?or the twitter acco3nt2 + 3pdated the tweets in the same format as 83nfort3natel&9 m& middle school self wo3ld ha.e tweeted and how + see &o3nger people + follow tweet. -ince this twitter will be 3npri.ate2 meaning that an&one who has access to the internet will ha.e access to this genre adaptation. Howe.er2 access will come most easil& to people who alread& own twitter
acco3nts. These people will be able to simpl& 4follow6 or read the tweets being compiled to create this stor&. +f a person does not ha.e a twitter acco3nt the& can still .iew this profile b& searching for it on the internet b& itself. The genre is fo3nd on the internet. The message of the original piece is still con.e&ed beca3se words similar to the original stor& are being 3sed. The constraints occ3rred when + was debating on how man& different point of .iews to tell the stor& from. The original stor& is told from the grandmother2 Little Red Riding Hood2 the wolf2 and the h3nter5s .iews. This is made diffic3lt beca3se a twitter profile is based off of one person and point of .iew. + made the ob.io3s choice and chose to tell the tale from &o3ng Little Red Riding Hood since she is the main character. This genre allows 3sers to 3nderstand the stor& of Little Red Riding Hood the D3ic est and simplest. +t does not let them dig too deep into the stor& howe.er and the& can not loo m3ch f3rther past the words than what is written blatantl&. "n a3thor of a stor& has the opport3nit& to ta e the time and detail his or her wor so that the a3dience can see deeper meanings. That cannot be the case with twitter acco3nt where the character acco3nt is limited. $ost of the time proper )nglish and grammar is not e.en a factor. The needs of teens are met beca3se of their shorter attention spans and the fact that most almost alwa&s ha.e the internet at their finger tips. The needs of people who ma& be loo ing for a more deeper read will not be met. "lso2 this ma& be diffic3lt for older people2 especiall& those who did not grow 3p in this technolog& based generation2 to grasp the meaning and message of the stor&. This genre definitel& affected m& wa& of doing things especiall& with the character co3nt2 also the ass3mption of how teenage girls tweet is what + 3sed as a basis for how to tweet from this acco3nt.
+ chose this science fiction tele.ision script ta e to the genre adaptation beca3se it was a lot different from the other two genres that + chose. + also wanted to create a script beca3se + was thin ing of the Twilight Gone and + co3ld see how + co3ld twist this stor& in the wa& of a science fiction tele.ision show. -ince Little Red Riding Hood is s3ch a classic tale + now that it has been adapted in man& wa&s o.er the cent3ries. + ha.e seen mo.ies abo3t this partic3lar stor& that range from horror to animation. +2 howe.er2 do not recall e.er seeing the stor& told where the wolf was act3all& a werewolf. + wanted to be able to do something different from what + had alread& done and from what other people ha.e alread& done. "s + wrote this genre adaptation + fo3nd it a little diffic3lt to ma e s3re the adaptation did in fact come across as a science fiction to readers. + also chose this adaptation beca3se recentl& + ha.e fo3nd an interest in that t&pe of genre in real life from shows li e The ,al ing %ead. + decided to ma e the wolf into a werewolf and changed the diction of the stor& to fit sci-fi. ,erewol.es co3ld also fit into a horror genre b3t + feel li e it wo3ld s3it science fiction as well. This genre is intended for a more mat3re a3dience 3nli e the original text which is a children5s bed time stor&. Other intended a3dience incl3de people who ha.e an interest in shows li e the Twilight Gone or The ,al ing %ead. ?or these people who ha.e all probabl& heard the infamo3s tale of Little Red Riding Hood b3t most li el& wo3ld not be ca3ght watching an&thing close to the children5s .ersion on tele.ision. "n&one has access to this genre if the& ha.e a tele.ision or e.en if the& ha.e internet to watch the show online or to read the script online. This genre is fo3nd on the tele.ision or online. +t is con.e&ed thro3gh a script t&pe la&o3t for a tele.ision show with a narrator spea ing for most of the stor& b3t the main characters do ha.e lines. The constraints were being able to con.e& the characters actions and incorporating their emotions in e.er& scene. +t was also diffic3lt to tr& and 3se science fiction t&pe .ocab3lar&. "nother iss3e in itself was when to split 3p the scenes and 73st
to deal with the onstage c3es. This genre allows 3sers to read and easil& .is3aliHe in their heads what is going on with in the stor&. The needs of &o3nger people/ ad3lts e.en older people beca3se the& all spend the most time watching tele.ision and the& will also be able to grasp the concept of the stor&. 'ot to mention the& will be the ones legitimatel& interested in a science fiction stor& compared to &o3nger and impressionable children. The ass3mption that science fiction is .er& eer& and scripts are written a certain wa& both pla& roles in the wa& that + had to do things.
