Grade 8 Poetry Anthology Unit 2 Performance Task

Unit title: Flights of Imagination Significant Concept: Although there is an art and science to writing poetry, what makes anything good is the human response to it. AOI: Health and Social Education PERFORMANCE TASK

Research a minimum of 3 countries finding one poem that represents each of those countries and fully analyse it, plus create a poem of your own that reflects UAE and put this together into an anthology. It should include: Cover representing the Around the World theme Contents page Page 1 introduction to what poetry is and explaining some of the key terms Page 2 4 Country 1 of choice. An intro to the country, some key facts, a page on the poet you have decided on from here, a copy of one of their poems annotated or analysed in prose. Page 5 7 Country 2 of choice. An intro to the country, some key facts, a page on the poet you have decided on from here, a copy of one of their poems annotated or analysed in prose. Page 8 11 Country 3 of choice. An intro to the country, some key facts, a page on the poet you have decided on from here, a copy of one of their poems annotated or analysed in prose Page 12 14 as above but on UAE with your own creative poem as the poem of study.

To follow PEE if choosing to analyse the poems in prose, OR to annotate in detail with explanations on the poem. To use the poetic techniques when writing own poem and to show creativity. Advice: This is a lengthy project, you should therefore allocate time over a long period to different aspects of it. Grading: This will be marked out of 3 criterion and will therefore be out of 30 marks. This will be one your performance tasks for this quarter, therefore it is 40% of your grade for this quarter. The grading breakdown will follow the provided rubric.
