COM2015 MEDIA IMPACT: Inquiry Plan

Planning for Inquiry Planning Phase

Lesson Focus/ Goals Introduce inquiry based project and guiding questions. Ensure everyone has enough background knowledge around the inquiry process. Determine a plan on how to complete project using KWL. Come to a general understanding of the organization of media. Examine media from a multiple of sources. Think of nished outcome (Ad-bust or Advertisement). Locate and collect resources using effective search strategies. Organize research and follow copyright laws. Introduction to the media analysis. Constant evaluation (do we need to revise?) Evaluate collected media ndings and artifacts. Connect new information for KWL. Summarize and sharing ndings up to date. Write up media analysis. Revise/edit plan in relation to information and target audience. Look at feasibility to complete project for a deadline. Present work to each other, or to the entire class. Upload nished product to ePortfolio. o Complete personal evaluation sheet and personally reect on the process, success and failures. Reect back on KWL.

Main Activities - Create ePortfolio - Write up KWL - Planning sheet (Pathnder sheet) - Daily blog on process, and feelings - Decide on a company and ads to evaluate - Start to develop thesis and a plan on how to create Ad-bust or Advertisement - Research companies - Copyright vs. Copyleft - Evaluate companies message and its medium - Attempt to answer/ nd evidence to thesis - Blog daily on process and feelings - Complete graphic organizers, and reect in blog - Complete company evaluation and summarize ndings in media analysis. - Tutorial on Adobe Photoshop - Create rst draft or plan and hand-in for initial evaluation - Presentation skills and strategies - Best application to share their work in relation to audience - Write up evaluations sheet - Have student go through process of metacognition

Other notes - May need to narrow focus for students as they have a hard time handling abstract reasoning and help them choose a company or creation of a thesis - Clear up media misconception from the start - Activate background knowledge - Going through process of critical thinking and imaginative thinking - Start creating bibliography
