ARCHMERE SENIOR FOOTBALL CAPTAIN COMMITS TO PLAY FOR YALE (Claymont, DE) February 5, 2014 Archmere senior and Wilmington native Conor Furey has signed a letter of intent to play tight end for the Yale University football team next fall. The two-time football captain has played four years lettered on Archmeres varsity team as defensive end, linebacker, offensive tackle, and tight end. Conor has helped lead the Auks into the playoffs three of four years, most notably finishing the 2010 season as Delaware State Championship Runner-up. Over his final two seasons, Conor recorded more than 200 tackles and six sacks for Archmere. Most recently, he was named to the 2013 Chesapeake Bowl. During his Archmere football career, Conor has been named to the 2012 and 2013 Delaware All State Teams for his outstanding play at defensive end, offensive tackle, and linebacker. He has also earned All Catholic 1st Team honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013 for his play at those same positions. In 2012 and 2013, Conor was named to the Academic All State Football team, and as a freshman, he won the the Pasquale Marinelli Memorial Award for Top Student-Athlete at Archmere. In addition to football, the multi-sport athlete has played one year on Archmeres varsity baseball team as an outfielder and three years on the varsity basketball team as center/ power forward. Conor was named basketball team captain for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He also played on the Archmere Rugby team during his junior year. Conor has excelled both on the field and in the classroom while at Archmere, earning summa cum laude honors as a freshman and magna cum laude honors as a sophomore and junior. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. Conor said he was excited to commit to Yale Football because of strong sense of community at the school and the programs rich history and tradition.
