Archmere Instrumentalist Named To University of Pennsylvania Honor Band

(Claymont, DE) February 12, 2014: Griffin Anderson 17 was recently selected to represent Archmere Academy and perform with the invitation-only University of Pennsylvania Honor Band at two events in the Philadelphia region. Griffin, who plays trumpet for the Archmere Concert Band and Stage Band, joined over seventy-five students from PA, NJ, DE, and NY under the direction of Dr. Kushol Gupta, and was the only representative from a Delaware school to receive this recognition in 2014.

The University of Pennsylvania Honor Band is now in its tenth year, and was created to reward, enrich, and inspire high school musicians from across the Greater Philadelphia/Delaware Valley region by providing memorable musical experiences. The first was a day-long workshop and concert in January, where Griffin had the opportunity to study with Yamaha Trumpet Clinician Dr. John Purcell, formerly the Senior Ceremonial Trumpeter in the United States Air Force Band, and to perform at the Episcopal Cathedral on the Penn campus. The second will be an upcoming session on March 1st, when the Honor Band ensemble will join the Penn Band and play during the Penn/Yale mens basketball game at the fabled Palestra arena in Philadelphia. Tickets for this event are available at www.pennathletics.com.

In addition to being named to the University of Pennsylvania Honor Band , Griffin was previously selected for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Festival Band and Honor Band on trumpet, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia All Star Jazz Band on keyboards (one of only two pianists in the entire region chosen for this ensemble). Along with his musical pursuits, he also plays soccer for Archmere and enjoys sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.
