Part I: Identification of Learning Problem

Statement of Topic Dance students at Savannah Arts Academy possess a high knowledge of dance technique and performance abilities and represent themselves well in the dance classroom. However, in the dance industry, you need digital audition materials just to get an opportunity. Digital promotional packets are a vital element in getting scholarships, getting accepted into summer programs and or jobs. It is in building and publishing a web repository that they have little or no knowledge. They struggle just to create a paper resume. In this digital age, our students need to have an accessible, professional level web repository that includes a dance resume, one headshot, one full body shot, and a highlight reel. While they possess great technical knowledge of incorporating technology into their social lives, they are unaware of how to use these in an opportunistic way. Identification of a Learning Problem A good digital portfolio is the most important asset a dancer can possess. When auditioning, it is these materials that create the first impression that a perspective employer has of you. Often times it can determine whether you succeed or fail in your goal to gain employment. A bad digital portfolio creates a negative context for any dance audition. Dance students at Savannah Arts Academy currently only use technology in a social context. They very rarely use technology for productivity and possess a very limited knowledge of how to publish their digital credentials. The students will learn the steps in publishing a comprehensive digital portfolio that will contain the following One preformatted dance resume in PDF format that highlights their education, performance experience, and notable achievements using Microsoft Word or Pages. One head shot One full body One highlight reel embedded from You Tube

Identification of Target Audience My target audience is 9-12th grade dance students at Savannah Arts Academy, the school at which I am currently employed. The students are of varying demographics including, race, financial means, technological knowledge, and technological means in both hardware and software. Problem Description Dance students need to know how to utilize a Web Hosting service, in this case Weebly, in order to publish their materials successfully. It is important that the digital portfolio reflect the dancers professionalism and make a solid noteworthy first impression. A competent portfolio contains a well formatted resume that is easy to read and understand, full 8x10 photos that are black and white and in focus, and a video highlight reel that shows the dancer in several different performances highlighting their versatility. Instructional Goals Students will be able to set up a web repository with Weebly. Students will be able to create a Navigation Heirarchy in a web repository. Students will be able to embed a completed dance resume in PDF format into a web repository Students will be able to embed a head shot and full body photograph into a web repository. Students will be able to embed a You Tube video into a web repository. Students will be able to publish their completed web repository to the internet. Part II: Learner Analysis

Introduction The intended group of learners are sophomore dance majors at the Savannah Arts Academy, a fine arts magnet high school in Savannah, Georgia. The school itself is a magnet school for both arts and academics and the student body is comprised of the top three to four

percent of the Savannah Chatham County Public Schools District. The dance majors of the sophomore class are represented by twenty one students. Two are male and twenty one are female, racially four are African American, one is Hispanic, and eighteen are Caucasian. Most of the information concerning educational aspects was pulled from school records, while most of the other more contextual information was gathered from a combination of observing, speaking, and interviewing students.

Entry Skills and Prior Knowledge Prerequisite skill and knowledge Most are competent in computer operations. Most are competent in internet functionality. Most are competent in site navigation. All are competent in resume generation. All possess professionally generated headshots and full body dance photos. All possess completed highlight reels of their dance performances hosted on You Tube. Experience Although most learners feel that they are affluent in the area of technology as a means to communicate themselves, very few are competent in actual web hosting. They possess all of the components separately but have no means to organize them into one area such as a web repository.

Common Errors made by Novices Students generate online conversations, videos and pictures without thought of academic merit, credibility, and or accountability for a future employer. Students often keep their digital files in random places such as data cds or thumb drives. Potential Misconceptions Websites are very costly to setup and maintain. Websites are maintained by people with incredible technology skills.

Only famous dancers have professional grade credential websites.

Attitudes Toward Content & Academic Motivation The majority of the students recognize the importance of having professional grade digital credentials. 100% of the students admitted to having access to a computer throughout the day, 78% admitted to owning a computer of their own. Beyond that, 100 % admitted to being able to operate a Windows computer, while only 50 % admitted to being able to operate a Mac based computer. While students are familiar with video hosting via YouTube, only 10 % are familiar with a web repository process or web design Educational Ability Levels The GPA of these learners ranges from 84.07 up to 98.96. The group seems dispersed pretty evenly throughout the class rankings. But after more careful scrutiny, the majority of the students represent the median or center of the class rankings with the top three learners sitting at 3rd, 37th, and 40th with the bottom three learners sitting at 173rd , 181st , and 188th.

General Learning Preferences As a result of student provided feedback, the students generally have commented that they prefer peer selected small groups. In accordance with this style, they will be responsible for forming their own groups out of comfort, and necessity. Students can also be grouped on subsequent days in several combinations of tech savy and not, or highly motivated or not as the difficulty of managing digital content sets and its various tribulations sets in.

Attitude Towards Teachers and School The female students are very respectful of the teacher student dynamic and can tolerate the most mundane of tasks without much complaining. The two boys are more vocal on their personal feelings on the quality of assignments as well as how well they feel they are being evaluated. In short, one gentleman is enjoys provoking teachers, and the other has a difficult time accepting responsibility, especially for his own actions. The general attitude towards general education classes is very mixed, with the attitude towards the arts classes being unusually positive and eager.

Group Characteristics (including social characteristics and relevant cultural information) Based on the first two group assignments, the class has cordoned of itself in the following subcategories. Students tend to group themselves based upon race, familiarity, common interest, or locale. Part III: Task Analysis

The task analysis was completed using the procedural analysis personally by registering, authoring, and publishing a web repository of my own that is aligned with the module objectives. By completing the steps from scratch and notating each step I have captured many of the details that would have been assumed. As a person who is experienced in these matters, it is difficult to operate as a novice, much akin to the abilities of the learners who will complete the module. The majority of the students will experience procedural learning and as a result, I have included a procedural outline that details each step of the web repository creation process. Make any revisions as needed. Subject Matter Expert The resume and credential packets are a must in the digital age of dance. I was able to speak with John Shearin, the chair of the Theater and Dance Department at East Carolina University. As the acting dean for the past twenty six years with an illustrious career on stage and in film, I would consider him an expert in the field of viewing and deciphering arts based resumes and highlight reels. In our conversations he indicated that he has viewed an innumerable amount of arts based performers press packets and has seen good and bad. Throughout our talk, he stated that resumes must be compartmentalized into education, performance, and awards/notable achievements. It is

through this format that one can detect any deficiencies in a performers training. He went on to say that having a well-rounded press packet was a clear sign to any director/producer that he/she was dealing with a passionate artist. He had a profound effect on the formatting of the resume, the stylization of the photos, as well as overall duration of the highlight reel. In detail, the resume must only be one page in length, the photos must look professional, and the video must clearly demonstrate the performers abilities, versatility, and technical prowess in less than five minutes. According to the Subject Matter Expert, the five minute mark is the point at which anyone with a trained eye for talent will lose interest. Final steps will include review and revision via learner reflection on self achievements. Lesson 3: Embedding: The Professionals Secret Terminal Objective 3: To fill each page with the required documentation with 100% accuracy Enabling Objectives: 3A. Students will identify four common issues that reinforce the importance of embedding information into a web repository 3B. To embed the completed resume in PDF format into the dance resume page with 100% accuracy. 3C. Initial Presentation: Students will participate in the discussion of negative detractors when viewing web pages that relate to the fine arts, specifically dance. They will provide negative examples and provide written feedback on how these examples could be improved. Part VIII: Summative Assessment Learner evaluation will be collected through a survey delivered at the conclusion of the online course. The instrument will be an opinion survey and offer a chance for learners to give general feedback on the validity of the materials, ease of use etc. but will also have a comment section in order to allow for more specified feedback. SME Review will be completed by John Shearin, Chair of the Theatre and Dance Department, East Carolina University. The materials will be submitted to him digitally via email, and a preliminary review will direct material and content revisions as needed. Once uploaded, a second review will be completed by giving the SME full online access to the completed modules. Based o the SMEs final review, revisions of the online materials will occur if needed and the module is ready for learner use.
