Pandora

Hephaestus made Pandora with the voice and strength of human but looks like a goddess. Hades gave her a magical box that she was told not to open. She was then was sent down to earth. Epimetheus then married her since she was so beautiful, and he thought since she was so beautiful he never thought she could be beautiful. While she was on earth she has the temptation to open the box from Hades which contained illness and sicknesses and hope. But when she opened it she only let the illnesses and sicknesses out and left the hope in the box. Prometheus had the idea to create Pandora and Epimetheus made her. Connections This connects to the modern world because a lot people will be told not to open something but still have the temptation to. For example, Christmas, kids will wait for a long time to open up their presents but some can't wait that long and end up opening some, just like Pandora did.

Phaeton and the Fiery Steed

Phaeton wants to prove to Apollo and everybody else that he was Apollo's son. He wanted to ride his father's chariot across the heavens. His father warned him the dangers of riding it across the heavens and that it would be extremely hard and dangerous but Phaeton didnt care, he just wanted to show to everybody he was Apollos son. Apollo finally agreed and let him take it for a ride across the heavens. Pheaton didn't follow his father's commands and whipped the horses and rode them off the path. Zeus watched agerly and when his anger got

extream he grabbed his lightning bolt and striked Phaeton with it. Phaeton instantly turned into ashes and fell into the river Euridanus. Apollo sadly got a hold of his chariot and Pheatons friend, Cycnus, sang everyday looking for him until the gods turned him into a swan and still to this day he sings and dips his head into the water still looking for him. Artemis and Orion

Artemis was beautiful, an amazing hunter and lived in the forest. She refused to marry anyone she wanted to be free and live with the nymphs in the forest. But one day she found love, she fell in love with Orion, son of Poseidon. Orion was just like her; he loved hunting and lived in the forest as well. Orion and Artemis were in love but Apollo (Artemiss brother) would never let Artemis love another man, he was scared she would forget his vows and marry Orion. Apollo then tricked Artemis into shooting the little black by the sea. Without her knowing what she was shooting she did it anyways to show to her brother what she could do. The waves then brought Orion to the shore where Artemis was standing. She then saw her arrow in his body. She then placed him among the stars with his dog Sirius following and Pleiades flying leading the way. Relationship Arthemis and Orion were madly in love. They loved each other so much, so much that they were going to get married until Orion died. Connections This connects to the modern world because some people/friends may not like the person you like, so they don't approve of him. Sometimes that person will make up things for you not to like them anymore. This is what Apollo did to Arthemis because he didn't approve of Orion.

Demeter

Persephone was daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She takes care of the flowers, but one day while she was taking care of the flowers someone came from the underworld and kidnapped her. Demeter spent all night looking for her and decided to tell Zeus. Zeus didn't care and thought it would be good for her. But while Persephone was in the underworld she ate six pomegranate seeds from the little gardener boy. Later on that day Hermes, the messenger god came to pick her up. She said that she didn't eat anything and Hermes took her back home. But the little gardener boy told Hades she did eat. Hades then told Demeter and Persephone that

she would have to spend six months of every year in the underworld for eating those six seeds. She said that for those six months nothing would grow. Uranus

Uranus was scared of his children since birth, so he hurled them deep into the earth. Gaea didnt have any say in what Uranus did and hated what he had done and asked their other

kids to take revenge. Kronos was the only one brave enough to take revenge. He then took the sharpened rock his mother gave him and went to the sea where his father was. He told his father his reign was over and that he would take it over. Kronos then stabbed him and he bleed to death. Gaea then brought back the Giants from deep in the earth. Relationship Uranus and his children (the hundred handed Giants and the Cyclopes) didnt have a good relationship. Uranus was scared of them since birth so he hurled them deep into the earth. Connections This connects to modern world because some parents leave their children like they have nothing to do with them. This is what Uranus did; he left his kids and had nothing to do with them. Some people have never met their mother or father or they left them at a very young

age and havent seen them since. Uranus did almost the same thing he made his kids leave at a very young age thought.

Narcissus and Echo

Narcissus was in love with himself, but he couldnt find anybody up to his standards. Echo loved him, but she wasnt good enough for him. Aphrodite (goddess of love) then gave Echo one wish, she wished for Narcissus to fall in love with someone who cant return his love. He then died loving himself and listening to Echos voice echoing what he says. When Narcissus died he turned into a flower which is called a Narcissus flower and If you call for Echo correctly in the forest she will reply. Moral Dont fall in love with yourself direct your love to others Relationship Echo loved Narcissus, but he didnt feel the same way to her. Narcissus wouldnt love anybody as beautiful as him. Echo didnt like how Narcissus didnt have feeling for her so she took revenge on him. Connections This relates to the modern world because some people think very high of them self and think very low of others. They will either think low of them because they dont have the money they do, more people like them or even because they think that they arent as prettier as them self. This is exactly how Narcissus is.

Midas

Apollo granted Midas one wish, and he wished for everything he touched to turn into gold. He then went and touched his daughter and turned her into a gold statue, but he didnt care right then because he was hungry. He then tried to eat but couldnt because it would turn into gold. He then feel on his knees and cried to Apollo to take his wish back, but for being a foolish king he gave him donkey ears. His barber was the only one to know he had the donkey

ears. But his barber was a huge gossiper and told everybody. Midas didnt get mad at his barber, he forgave him. Apollo saw what Midas did and said that he had learned his lesson and took off his donkey ears. Their relationship in this story is that his barber didnt keep his kings secret and told everybody his most embarrassing story. But in the end Midas didnt punish him he just forgave him and became a better person. Connections Midas connects to the modern world because there are people in the world today who wish or ask for something without thinking if it will help them in the future and most of the

time thats what happens. In the end sometimes those people will learn from their mistakes like Midas did and become a better person.

Prometheus and his Gift to Man

Gods turned the unintelligent, dull animals into servants. From commands of Zeus he ordered the Titan brothers (Prometheus and Epimeteus) to create animals by giving them teeth, wings, organs etc. They also gave them qualities. But Zeus was asking for too much. So Prometheus created a man out of clay and brought him to earth. Eros granted the man with a soul so he could live. Prometheus had a plan; he wanted to give man fire. But Zeus would never although that so Prometheus sneaked into Zeuss palace and stole some fire. He then gave it to man and taught them how to use it and how to live off it. Zeus saw the fire on earth one day and Prometheus explained why he had done it. Zeus didnt care thought he sent Prometheus out on a rock in the mountains and fastened him to it with chains. Promethues told Zeus that for his doings and selfishness he will not share the privilege. Zeus came back to Prometheus days later asking him what he said meant and if he told him he would set him free. But Prometheus wouldnt tell him. Years later a hero came and set Prometheus free, he then went back to man and became mans best friends.

Connection This connects to modern world because when people believe in them self and do what they know is right they wont let people say otherwise and things will work out for them in the end. This is what Promtheus did and things worked out for him in the end.

Apple of Discord

The Nymphs found a baby by the ocean and took the baby girl to the bottom of the sea. They called her Aphrodite, goddess of the sea-waves. She was also called Venus and when she grew up she became the loveliest maiden of all. The sea nymphs decided that Aphrodite needs to know what above the sea as well and sent to land where a group of nymphs waited for her. The nymphs stood there and took her as their queen. She was then given a throne. The gods didnt believe how beautiful she was so they took her to Olympus. The gods were amazed and all wanted to marry her but she refused to marry any of them. Zeus was mad and declared that she must only marry the one he chooses. He then made Aphrodite and Hephaestus get married. But she refused to live with him and had very little to do with him. Aphrodite spent most of her time with Athene. They then attended a wedding and then a uninvited guest showed up whose name was Ate. She was very angry and placed an apple on the table which had a note on it that read To the fairest. Hera, Athene and Aphrodite all thought the apple was for them so then went to Mount Ida to ask the Sheppard. The Sheppard was Paris. They all promised him something different if they gave one of them the apple. He couldnt resist Aphrodites beautifulness and choose her. Theses Choose what would be better for you in the end Moral Choose wisely Relationship Aphrodite and Hephaestus didnt have a good relationship. They were forced into marriage and Aphrodite didnt even like him. Aphrodite refused to live with him and has very little to do with him. He chooses Aphrodite because she was beautiful and he only thought only of love instead of wisdom, riches or glory.
