KimJongUnhasprovenhiscontemptoftheUSwithhiscontinuedthreatsandnucleartests. Hehasthreatenedouralliesaswell,JapanandSouthKorea.WhileNorthKoreamaynothavethe capabilitytoreachtheUSwiththeirnuclearwarheads,ouralliesclosesttoNorthKoreaareinconstant danger.LtColCatherineWilkinson,aPentagonspokesperson,saidtheUSwouldnotbeintimidated. "TheUnitedStatesisfullycapableofdefendingitselfandouralliesagainstaNorthKoreanattack.We arefirmlycommittedtothedefenceofSouthKoreaandJapan,"shesaid.

humanitarianaid.(BureauofEastAsianandPacificAffairs) TheUSisacentralpartinthisproblemandispartofthereasonforthisconflict.Ithasbeen continuousforyears,andescalatingallthetime.PresidentObamahascalledNorthKorea'sthird successfulnucleartesta"highlyprovocativeact"that"underminesregionalstability"andthreatensaction bytheinternationalcommunity.HesaidNorthKorea'snuclearprogramconstitutes"athreattoU.S. nationalsecurity."(MacLeod,Yang1)TheUSwouldliketoseethedenuclearizationofNorthKorea asmuchasanyoneelse.Therefore,we,theUnitedStates,proposethattheUNtightensanctionsand completelycutoffNorthKoreaunlessKimJongUngivesuphisnuclearprogramandstopsthetesting ofhisWMDs.Ifthesethreatsandtestscontinue,orifthesituationescalates,wewouldsupportthe tighteningofsanctionsinordertodefendouralliesintheregionandthesecurityofourhome.Anuclear attackbyNorthKoreawouldleadtoanenormouslossoflives.TheUSwouldprefernottogotowar withNorthKorea,,butactionmaybeneededtopreventapossiblenuclearattack.
