The honey bee is the state insect of NC. The honey bee produces $2 million of honey each year.

The emerald is the state stone of NC. The largest emerald was discovered near Statesville, NC, and it weighs over 1,400 pounds.

The sweet potato is the state vegetable of NC.

Granite is the state rock of NC, and the largest open face granite quarry is in Mount Airy.

The gray squirrel is the state mammal of NC, and it can be found in all parts of NC. It eats acorns in the winter and fruit in the spring.

The long leaf pine is the state tree of NC. Timber has been sold since colonial times.
