Time of Lesson 9.00

1. STATEMENT OF THE PUPILS PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The following topics have been covered by the cooperating teacher to date:
Basic Construction Methods.
Solids in Contact.
Pictorial Projection.
The cooperating teacher has stated that this is a very able class of students in relation to this subject.
Students are fully competent in the skills of using their equipment as all have done Technical Graphics up
to Junior Cert. Having done this amount of Technical Graphics to date the students have the knowledge to
take points or measurements from various views and locate them on other views, visualize 3D objects and
what can be seen and not seen from certain views and identify the key information in a question.

2. RATIONALE FOR THE SELECTION & STRUCTURING OF SUBJECT MATTER

AND FOR THE METHODOLOGY
The class have been gradually carrying out the various subtopics of interpenetration one by one. The
students have finished the fourth method in the last class which was the vertical cut method. Now we will
move on to the fifth and final method for solving interpenetration problems the auxiliary method. The
auxiliary method is perhaps the most common interpenetration question that comes up in exams and is
also the most complex. Therefore we will be spending the remaining two weeks on the auxiliary method
and cover exam questions

3. AIMS
The aims of this lesson are to

Recap all other methods used to date

Launch the new sub topic of the auxiliary method

Combine other methods (creating elements)

Highlight the importance of labelling

Generate one full question and as much of the second as possible involving the new method

4. LEARNING OUTCOMES & CORRESPONDING ASSESSMENTS

Learning Outcomes (LOs)

Assessment of LOs

At the end of this lesson the students will be enabled

(Note: each LO has an assessment. Include a variety

to

of types.)

Summarize all 4 previous methods used

Get each student to recap a topic each

during think-pair-share

Discuss the new method (auxiliary method)

Questioning of students through discussion

Analyse and breakdown a drawing

Explain how to start and complete the

second question

Identify where we can combine methods

Questioning of the students on how to find

certain points and what method can be
adapted

Combine methods

Observation of the students combine the

elements method into auxiliary method to
solve question

Complete 1 full questions and start another

5.

PLANNING FOR LITERACY & NUMERACY

Literacy:
In this class literacy will be addressed by writing the new words on the board for the students to take down
The students will also be required to write down step by step procedures of previous topics in the recap
Numeracy:
In this class the students will be required to take measurements from one view and transfer them to another view
6.

PLANNING FOR DIFFERENTIATION

Over the past few weeks I have noticed strengths and weaknesses in all of the students. The strongest student is
cocky and doesnt follow instructions 100% as I have to keep on to him about labeling. One of the weaker
students follows every instruction 100% and always works as hard as he can. Analyzing all of the strengths and
weaknesses I find that the class balances out very even and I dont have a problem with differentiation except one
student may finish a couple of minutes ahead of the others. If this does happen then I will get that student to write
on their sheet a step by step account of what they did in the question which will be good for revision
