The flowers can bloom from May to June and fruits from August to November.

The uses of the shrub could be a hedge or a border to a yard. and can persist through the winter, if not all eaten. The color of the leaves in are an evergreen and stay this color throughout its lifetime. This native plant to New Jersey Summersweet Clethra can grow up to six to eight feet tall and spread to four to six feet wide. It can grow in full sun or total shade. Clethra grows great in acidic and well-drained soils. The leaves tend to grow in late spring and in the fall the leaves turn a golden yellow.

The white flowers for this shrub bloom in mid-July to August and are extremely fragrant. The fragrance that this plant gives off is a kind of spicy smell. These flowers attract bees and butterflies. Also, this plant has seed capsules that attract many different kinds of birds.
