characteristics of students 1.5 Differentiate teaching to meet the specic learning needs of students across the full range of abilities. 3.1 Establish challenging learning goals 4.1 Support student participation I believe I need to develop my knowledge and understanding of physical, social and intellectual development and how these factors may effect a students learning. I am attending a six week practicum soon which I believe will help me develop understanding of this substandard. So far I havent had a chance to explore developmental characteristics to be able to say that I have an understanding of them. However within this classroom there are three students who are on the spectrum. I believe through this experience I will gain a deeper understanding of how students learning may be effected. I believe at the end of the experience I will successfully be able to say that I have knowledge of this substandard. 1.3 Students with diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds 1.4 Strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. 2.4 Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians As a teacher it is important to be able to successfully implement, plan and teach a whole range of students from different backgrounds. So far I have only been exposed to well off environments. My aim for developing this substandard is to spend time within low SES schools. To take action and succeed in this substandard I plan on working or volunteering in a school that presents the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students with differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds. SubStandard Taking Action 2.5 Literacy and numeracy strategies As an extension of my education I have taken part in an extra subject. The focus area is that of middle school mathematics. I have two out of four subjects to complete. When completed I will be able to use the title of a middle school mathematics specialist. I believe by taking part and furthering my education and knowledge I will have a deep understanding of implementing successful teaching strategies within the classroom. 2.6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) 4.5 Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically I feel as though I am not condent when using and implementing ICT in the classroom. My aim to succeed and generate understanding of this substandard is to seek out and take part in professional development days that are orientated around the use of ICT. Students are becoming more and more technologically minded and savvy. Alongside this I need to make sure students are aware of how to use ICT safely and responsibly, not only in the classroom but also outside the school environment. I believe that this will be an ongoing learning process. One in which I hold great priority towards my development. 3.2 Plan, structure and sequence learning programs I believe I have an understanding that to successfully create lesson sequences I need to have knowledge of student learning, the content and teaching strategies. However I believe I can further progress my knowledge before moving onto a procient level. I plan to gain further knowledge by immersing myself into classroom environments that provide me with diverse whole planning opportunities. SubStandard Taking Action 3.6 Evaluate and improve teaching programs I believe this substandard will be an ongoing learning process for me. To develop this substandard further I aim to continue practicing reection. As a professional I need to critically reect upon myself as as a learner and on the implemented teaching programs. I need to constantly be aware of how to improve student learning. Through critical reection I believe this substandard will be achieved. 3.7 Engage parents/ carers in the educative process One strategy I hope to implement into the classroom is an open door policy. I wish to create supportive connections between parents and carers. Part of this connection will be a take home diary. This diary will be taken home once a week. I aim to write comments into the diary, directed towards the individual student. I hope to take notes on concepts that students understood and took part in well, struggles and behavior. I believe it is important to create an open and respected relationship. Parents and carers need to be aware and have knowledge of what is being taught within the classroom. If any worries or queries arise, parents and carers are always able to get in touch, therefore being involved in the educative process. SubStandard Taking Action 4.3 Manage challenging behaviour Whilst on a prac, I was able to implement a successful whole class behaviour management system. I feel as though I have knowledge in developing strategies for whole class settings. However I feel as though my knowledge concerning students who need individual behaviour strategies is lacking. I aim to gain full understanding and knowledge of this substandard by taking part in my next practicum experience. I am aware that I need to create individual behaviour plans for three students. Working with these students to discover the best way in which to support them will provide me with full understanding of this substandard. 4.4 Maintain student safety I believe I need to work on this substandard to gain full comprehension. My aim is to seek advice from my colleagues. With cohesion from colleagues about different strategies I will be able to demonstrate understanding of this substandard. 5.2 Provide feedback to students on their learning On my next practicum experience I am given the chance to plan, create, implement, teach, evaluate, reect and report on a unit of work. I believe from this experience I will be able to broaden my knowledge on the importance of giving timely feedback about their learning. I aim to present students with progressive and constructive reports. SubStandard Taking Action 5.3 Make consistent and comparable judgements To gain an understanding of this substandard I have attended CTJ moderation days. I understand how important it is to evaluate and moderate students work. As a future teacher I will be using these days to conrm that what I am teaching, how im teaching it and how the students respond to the learning is appropriate. However before these moderation days arise I aim to collaboratively monitor and work with surrounding teachers. By doing this I believe I will be able to successfully demonstrate this substandard. 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice 7.2 Comply with legislative, administrative and organisational requirements 7.4 Engage with professional teaching networks and broader communities For me to successfully demonstrate these substandards I plan and aim on taking part in ongoing future personal development days. These will be a constant area of development. Initially I will seek these through the school that I receive a placement at. This will then help me broaden my knowledge and I will be able to source these development days for myself. 6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning To continue my understanding of professional learning and the implications for student learning I aim to progress through to the next level and show my knowledge and understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. This will be an ongoing learning experience which I hope I eventually achieve.
