Whats in the office closet?

A container of Cd's scratched and dusty.

A box of files yellowed.

Tremendous tub of computer cables all disabled.

Bunch of three ring binders all broken ripped and dead.

A clip-on lamp bulb burned out.

Smile wrapping paper happy forever.

Assortment of coats black, brown, and beige.

Box from a folding dog crate sporting the as seen on TV stamp.

Rubbermaid cabinet filled with pencils.

Cartages of ink empty and still.

Paint swatches all colors.

A collapsed shelf bending in strain.

Box from DVD player not used since 2004.

Notebooks old and new piled for later review.

And a single worn out shoe.
In the office closet.

In the poem whats I the office closet I use the poetic elements of
personification, rhyme, and alliteration. I used personification when I said
smile wrapping paper happy forever. This is personification because an
impersonal object a relatable humanlike quality. In the lines 15 and 16 the
words review and shoe are rhyming in order to make a rhythm in the poem
and make these lines flow smoothly. The alliteration on line 8 also
provides a rhythm to the poem by challenging the reader slightly to
continue without slipping up. These elements can be used to enhance a
poem and add more enjoyment from the readers experience.

Plastic bags
Most of us o I every day without much thought buying things in little oil
bags.
10000 billion little plastic packaging pieces
Blowing into rivers and oceans.
To kill sea birds turtles and whales
Across that ocean plastic bags
Use infinite amounts of that black sludge
But some say otherwise they say 9 of 10 Americans reuse the bags
And 3000 people have jobs recycling the bags
And they dont harm the environment
But people wont.
Reuse things that can be reused.
Because they dont want a bag for a trip to CVS.
Killing seabirds turtles and whales.

The poem plastic bags is about the pollution of these seas by these bags
and to emphasize this the poem uses poetic elements like hyperbole,
repetition, and finally alliteration to convey this idea. Such as when I use
alliteration to add a beat to a poem when saying plastic packaging pieces
this sets a mood and rhythm to the poem. The use of repetition is used in
this poem to emphasize the damage caused by this epidemic of plastic in
the worlds oceans. The use of hyperbole is used to show in the readers
mind how much oil is used just to make these plastic bags. These poetic
elements make this poem a simple but powerful piece of writing

Squirrel
it slips in on tiny tiptoed feet
scampering around
on soft moist ground
in a forest of whispering trees
foraging for food
On edge
Waiting for any sign of danger
Its heart beating steadily
The trees block the sun were it will find its sustenance
Pushing its claws into the soil
It furrows out a hole
In the bottom its buried treasure
It grabs it and runs
As the predators were lurking.

In my nature poem squirrel I use imagery, metaphor, and rhyme to make the poem a better experience for the reader. I used the metaphor its buried treasure to show how important its food is to the life of this tiny creature. I also use rhyme when the
words around and ground are said. This adds a uniform beat to the poem
an element necessary for this type of poem. The imagery from the last line
is also contributing by putting in a slightly darker element of fear into the
end of the poem by putting in perspective the danger this squirrel was in
even in that tranquil situation. These elements are simple but effective
ways of developing these poems.

Picture poem

A dry hot day in the desert
Just like any other
Red sand bleached
Spires of rock in the distance
Green shrubs breaking up the solid sheet of the sand
Blue sky expanding infinitely
Clouds nestled in the ground
A mesa seems to touch the sky
Vultures circle at the scent of blood
A distant alien landscape uninhabitable except for the most robust life
A flat rocky landscape still holding some trace of individual
Such as a lizard baking in the sun
Or a snake leaving a s in the dirt like the wind
A dry hot day in the desert
Just like any other.

In this poem I use the elements of figurative language, simile and,
metaphor to enhance this poem to get the message across of the
harshness of the desert landscape. Use of this simile provides a direct
comparison between a snakes trial in sand to the natural drifts made by
the wind showing how wispy and fragile each was. I also repeat its a hot
day in the desert just like any other to emphasize the hospitableness of
the desert and create the feeling of vastness in the desert. I also use
hyperbole to create a vivid image in their mind such as when I say the sky
expands infinitely. The reader pictures a giant blue sky. These elements
help show the message of the poem that the dessert may look empty and
dead is filled with life.

Social concern poem
Sterling
Donald sterling
A name you might have heard
Along with the words slander, scum, and stupid
He may have said some wrong things
But is this a country where there is freedom of speech?
Or one that freedom of speech applies only to approve views?

But should he be crucified?
Is he any different from the rest of us?
Is every rage induced comment treated like this?
Or are most soon forgotten?
Being stripped of millions
For stating his own opinions
Just because someone recorded it
Receiving death threats
He cannot show his face
Is this a country where there is freedom of speech?
Or one that freedom of speech applies only to approved views?

The poem sterling is about the controversy from the remarks of Donald
sterling. I us poetic elements such as hyperbole when I say he is being
crucified to emphasize the amount of hatred he is receiving from the
media fans and social media. I also repeat the questions Is this country
where there is freedom of speech? Or one that freedom of speech applies
only to approved views? to make the reader think about the right of
freedom of speech. I also use the element of alliteration in the line
slander, scum and stupid to provide a slight rhythm to the poem
enhancing the reader feeling about this subject. To also provide a rhythm
to the poem I use assonance in saying millions and opinions these two
words contribute to the poem greatly when used together.

Narrative poem
Radiation

On a cloudy dark morning in 1986 all was well in the city.
But in the plant a test was beginning
Thant would destroy that city, not with bombs, but with radiation.
The test began and the temperature grew
And the scientist were none the wiser
They put the rods in just as they planned
And they exploded, shaking the planet
And throwing off the lid.
The dark cloud started to immerge from the pit
The firemen were called in unknowing it was present
They climbed a ladder onto roof and were never heard from again.
The helicopters came and poured a grain of the sand on an inferno.
The city was evacuated none could stay
They say that it felt like hot needles.
Years after the wildlife came back to reclaim the city.
But the radiation still lingers in a 30 mile bubble around the place called Chornobyl.

In my poem radiation use of the elements hyperbole, visualization and alliteration to great
effect to get across the sad devastating feel of this poem. I used visualization to paint a picture
in the readers mind of a dark radioactive smoke appearing from the reactor a terrifying thing to
see if you were there. I also used hyperbole to show how little they had done by pouring sand
on the reactor it did almost nothing to stop the fire or radiation. The end note is the use of
alliteration to put a small beat on at the end of the poem to finish it off. This poems use of
poetic elements have made it great at evoking the feeling of sadness from the reader.

Experience poem
Diving
One summer in Jamaica
I became an explorer of the deep
I dropped off the boat
Into three blue water. To find an alien world
In the depths of the marines trench.
The sea floor was not sand but shells
In the deep blue water
Colorful Corral in the depths added colors to the scene
Diving in Jamaica the eyes of fish watching
Set down on the sea floor to trek across the sea
Off the cliff at the shelf
Then rose again to see the sky

Hot and humid in the oceans of Jamaica.

In my poem I use the poetic elements of imagery to evoke certain mental pictures in the
readers mind like when I describe the blue water and colorful corals. This helps the reader
understand the experienced Ive gone through. I use the element of figurative language to
create a fantasy image in the readers mind when I say trekking across the ocean because you
cant cross an ocean on foot. In the phrase colorful coral I also use alliteration to add rhythm to
the poem. These certain elements provide a sense of adventure and fantasy to the poem.
