Life Cycle of a Product
1. Raise and Extract
Coke cans are made of
aluminum, which comes
from bauxite ore.
Bauxite ore
2. Process
The bauxite ore is mined
and then is rened into
alumina hydroxide at a
renery. The alumina
then goes to an
aluminum smelter to turn
it into aluminum metal.
3. Manufacture
In a factory, a cylindrical
shape is cut out of a thin sheet
of aluminum, which is then
decorated and formed into the
can's shape. The can is lled
with coke and the lid is put on.
Use
Coke cans are used to
carry coke and for people
to drink out of.
Dispose
If you throw a coke can away,
it will sit in a landll for about
200 years until it decomposes.
If you recycle coke cans, you
can send them to a recycling
center that cleans and melts
the cans down into aluminum
ingots, which can be reused
and made into any aluminum
product.
