Artifact Reflection

University of Wisconsin-Platteville
Title of Experience/Artifact: Level 2 Personal Training
Date Experience Completed: Spring Semester 2014
Description:
The artifacts I have presented are the three assessments of my client I trained spring semester. Each
assessment shows the improvements she has made throughout the semester. Along with the
assessments, Ive also have the interval training workouts I did with her that was a big impact on her
progressions.
UW-Platteville Health Promotion Standard Alignment
My artifacts best align with the health promotion standard 7, Reflection. The health promoter is a
reflective practitioner who continually evaluates the effects of his/her choices and actions on others
(clients, volunteers and other professional sin the health promotion community) and who actively seeks
out opportunities to grow professionally. I think my artifact fits with this standard because seeing the
improvements she has made with each assessment shows the areas she has grown, as well as what she
can keep working on. An example of seeing my client with improvements is her and pushups. At the
very beginning of the semester, she couldnt do one regular pushup without shaking or giving up. We
stuck with knee pushups. By the end of the semester when she was doing her interval training, she had
to do pushups for 50 seconds. She had accomplished being able to do 10 regular pushups and
alternating that with 10 knee pushups throughout those 50 seconds.
Health and Physical Educations Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement Alignment
KSD1.f. Assesses Client Learning, The candidate understands, is committed to, and can develop
assessments that are clearly stated and congruent with instructional goals. The clients are aware of how
they are meeting the established standards and are involved in the goal setting process. I believe my
artifact best aligns with Assesses Client Learning because I was definitely committed to my client and her
goals she wanted to achieve. I was always aware of her goals, and what to do next to keep her engaged
in in new learning experiences.
What you learned about teaching/learning from this experience:
This experience was a lot different than what I have gone through with previous personal training
clients. I had a lot more confidence in myself with training this client because of previous experience
and the fact that this client was a lot more cooperative and goal oriented than my other ones. I learned
that I can set goals with my client and reflect on those goals with the assessments and can make sure
that she is staying motivated throughout the process.
What you learned about yourself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience/artifact:
I learned about myself that its important to set goals with my client and making sure that we both are
progressing with those goals. Also, I think having more experience this time around, I learned that
staying positive makes for a better session with my client and she can feel confident in herself and me.
