USING PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM TO

FIGURE OUT IF A TRIANGLE IS RIGHT,

ACUTE, OR OBTUSE.
Right= c^2= a^2+b^2
Acute= c^2< a^2+b^2
Obtuse= c^2> a^2+b^2
45-45-90 TRIANGLE AND 30-60-90 TRIANGLE

Side Ratios: 1:1:square root of 2
30-60-90
Side Ratios: 1:square root of 3:2

HOW TO FIND INTERIOR ANGLES OF A POLYGON
x number of sides 2 = x number of triangles
times 180= x
Ex. 6 sides 2 = 4 triangles times 180= 720
degrees.
HOW TO FIND EXTERIOR ANGLES OF A POLYGON
360 degrees divided by x sides.
Ex. 360 degrees divided by 6 sides= 60
degrees.

HOW TO TELL SHAPES
Rectangle= a parallelogram with four right
angles.
Square= a parallelogram with four congruent
sides and four right angles.
Rhombus= a parallelogram with four
congruent sides.
Trapezoid= a quadrilateral with one pair of
parallel sides.

VOCABULARY
Circle- A set of points in a plane that are equidistant from a
given point.
Center- The point from which all points of the circle are
equidistant.
Radius- A segment from the center of a circle to any point
on the circle.
Chord- A segment whose endpoints are on a circle.
Diameter- A chord that contains the center of the circle.
Secant- A line that intersects a circle in two points.
Tangent- A line in the plane of a circle that intersects the
circle in exactly one point.
ARCS
Major Arc- An arc that is over 180 degrees.
Minor Arc- An arc that is less than 180
degrees.
Whole circle= 360 degrees
The measure of a major arc is 360 degrees
the measure of the related minor arc.
HOW TO MEASURE AN INSCRIBED ANGLE
m<ACB= times measure of arc AB
HOW TO MEASURE ANGLES INSIDE THE CIRLCE
m<1= times (measure of arc QP+measure
of arc RS)

AREAS OF SIMILAR POLYGONS
Side length of polygon 1 = AB
Side length of polygon 2 EH
Area of polygon 1 = AB^2
Area of polygon 2 EH ^2

HOW TO FIND AN ARC LENGTH
Arc length of AC = m<AC
2 times pie times radius 360 degrees
HOW TO FIND THE AREA OF AN ARC
Area of sector AOC = m<AC
pie times radius squared 360 degrees
AREA OF A REGULAR POLYGON
Formula: A= a times p times # of triangles.

EULERS THEOREM
F= Face, E= Edge, V= Vertex
F+V = E+2

TRANSLATION
Translation- When an object moves a given
distant.
Ex. (x,y) (x+5, y-3)
REFLECTION RULES
Reflecting over x-axis. (x,y) (x, -y)
Reflecting over y-axis. (x,y) (-x, y)
Reflecting over y=x. (x,y) (y, x)
Reflecting over y= -x. (x,y) (-y, -x)
ROTATION RULES
90 degrees= (x,y) (-y, x)
180 degrees= (x,y) (-x, -y)
270 degrees= (x,y) (y, -x)

Rotational Symmetry- A figure that looks the
same when turned 180 degrees or less.
DILATION
Dilation- When something gets bigger or
smaller.
Ex. (x,y) (2x, 2y)
