PHASE 1
Modalities
Ice! While its in the acute stage you want to ice the ankle, Use a simple ice bag
technique, for 20 minutes every 1-2 hours make sure you compress it with an ace wrap,
and elevate above the heart. Make sure your ankle is immobilized during the icing.
Cold water immersion! Next you want to immerse your ankle in cold water for 15
minutes, practice range of motion while doing this.
Electrotherapy! Use a Game ready, for 30 minutes. Do 3 times a day.

Exercises
Swimming! Do 30 laps in a pool, 3 times in a hour.
Upper Extremity Ergo! Use this machine to keep your cardio up.
Light biking! Use an x-training bike very lightly; make sure its at a setting that does not
put lots of stress on your ankle.

PHASE 2

Modalities

Heat Packs! Use Hydrocollater Packs, Apply for 15-20 minutes, make sure there are
layers of towels in-between the skin and the packs. Before Therapy Session
Ultrasound! Put Lotion on your skin, then move the transducer on your skin for 15
minutes, Make sure its moving at all times.
Ice Massage! Freeze water in a Styrofoam cup then break the top part, and rub over ankle
for 7-10 minutes, till the skin is pink.
Exercises
Swim!
