Four Significant Experiences: Writing Collage

In art, a collage is a collection of pictures that relate to a specific theme in order to create an
overall visual of the topic. Keeping this in mind, you will be creating a college made of
segmented writing that shares events or snapshots about your life that made you into who you
are. The type of segmented writing is known as a crot A crot is not an essay but are creative
writings that show the significance of an event.

The crots will consist of reflections from your life that create a life-collage when put together.
Unlike an essay that has a thesis with supporting details, each part of the crot is its own unique
expression and when put together, creates your autobiography. When the crots are finished,
they will be arranged to create a narrative of your life.

The crot can be
Paragraphs
Short, short story
Poetry (original)
A written song (original)
Some Ideas:
Family experiences
Life changing experiences
Reflections from childhood or teen years
Child birth
Careers
Education
Personal Belief
Your suggestions

The basics:
The project consists of four crots
Each crot should be anywhere from 100 500 words.
Each crot should have its own page and contain original pictures or artwork.
Artwork and pictures should accent the page and not be the main feature.
Creative fonts and colors may be used as long as they are readable.
Poetry will be arranged as prose. The same with music.
Use a title page with a creative title, your name, and date.
Staple the project together.
Writers Memo
In addition to the crot, you will need to complete a writers memo. The writers memo
is a one page writing that explains the experience and process of the project. The writers memo
will be the last page of the project.
The project is due on Monday Week 2. If absent, email or FAX the assignment by 9:00
A.M. This will mark the assignment on time. When you return, give me the hard copy.
