ASSIGNMENT 2
UNIT - 2

CLASS : XII MM : 25
General instructions:
a) All questions are compulsory.
b) Question 1 to question 3 carry 1 mark each.
c) Question 4 to 7 carry 2 marks each.
d) Question 8 to 10 carry 3 marks each.
e) Question 11 carries 5 marks.
1. What is the effect of temperature on the relaxation time of electrons in a metal?
2. A carbon resistor has a value of 62K with a tolerance of 5%. Give the colour code of
the resistor.
3. A battery of emf 10V and internal resistance 3 is connected to a resistor R. If the
current in the circuit is 5A, calculate the value of R.
4. In a potentiometer arrangement, a cell of emf 1.25 V gives a balance point at 35 cm
length of the wire. If the cell is replaced by another cell and the balance point shifts to
63cm, what is the emf of the second cell?
5. I-V graph for a given metallic wire at two temperatures are shown, which of these is for a
higher temperature?

6. When the resistance connected in series with a cell is halved, the current is not exactly
doubled but slightly less. Why?
7. The no density of conduction electrons in a copper conductor estimated to be 8.510
28
per
meter cube. How long does an electron take to drift from one end of a wire 3 m long to its
other end? The area of cross section of the wire is 210
-6
per meter square and it is
carrying a current of 3A.
8. Determine the current in each branch of the network shown in figure:

9. a) Three resistors 2, 4 and 5 ohm are connected in parallel. What is the total resistance of
the combination?
b) If the combination is connected to a battery of emf 20V and negligible internal
rsistance, determine the current drawn from the battery and current through each
resistor.
10. A high tension supply must have a very large resistance. Why?
11. Write the principle of potentiometer .How will you compare emf of two cells using a
potentiometer. Explain with a circuit diagram. Write two precautions to be taken during this
experiment.
