were !y only class!ates and #riends$ )ust
like younger si"lings, * wanted to copy the
+great, drawings they would draw$ -y
sister didn.t appreciate this (ery !uch, "ut
!y "rother took the opportunity to teach
!e what he taught hi!sel# and learned
#ro! +how to draw a cartoon, "ooks and
(ideos #ro! #a!ous artist$ /t the ti!e, o#
se(en years o# age, they were "oring #or
!e$ * would "e interested #or a little "it
during the +speed0up, drawing, "ut all the
talk #ro! the artist * did not understand$
* started to learn to draw realistically
with sideways pictures$ %his was actually
taught to !e "y !y !other$ /lso, learning
how to draw roses and other natural
scenes like !ountains, trees, and ri(ers
were taught to !e "y !y !other$ /ll o# the
intricate, detailed, and special techni1ues
o# di##erent tools were !ainly #ro! !y
"rother$ 2e taught !e how to use charcoal,
shading, di!ensional, ruler drawing,
tracing, etc$ -y sister taught !e a little,
!ainly with the use o# colors$ 3he taught
!e how to s!ear pastels, considering *
would use the! as crayons and it would
get (ery !essy and ruin all o# her supplies$
3he also helped !e learn di##erent
strategies to water colors, like how to keep
the colors #ro! !i&ing4 and once again this
was #or a "ene#it #or her art supplies$
%hough !y sister taught !e a couple
artistic techni1ues with colors, !y "rother
was the one who taught !e how to color
with coloring pencils and crayons$ 2e
showed !e the di##erent techni1ues like
one0directional coloring, swirls #or water,
pressing hard #or outlining pictures and
pressing light #or coloring inside the lines,
etc$
* ended up drawing with realis!
#ro! this age and tried e&panding !y
a"ilities as * grew$ 5n#ortunately, at around
11 years old * 1uit$ -y "rother.s work was
so a!a6ing that * reali6ed * was drawing to
"e as good as he was and that * would
ne(er "e that good$ %his is so!ething *
would want to a(oid in !y classroo!$ *
want !y students to understand the
i!portance o# uni1ue work, personal twists
and styles, and that copying is okay
"ecause you will learn #ro! it and
e(entually create your own uni1ue work
#ro! the techni1ues you learned #ro!
copying$ %racing paper is a great way to do
this to ad(ance in si6e, shape, and
structure o# realis!$ /#ter a while, copying
things that are ne&t to you or #ro! a #ar will
help you to connect the a!ount o#
distances #or realistic drawing$
