Because He First Loved Us Presents Got Skills
Got Skillz was held on August 1, 2014 at Discovery Christian Community
located at 5929 South 900 East, Murray Utah. This day was to honor and educate
the courage, and empower the refuge children from all over the world, to reward
their hard work and fellowship from the years past also to raise fund for the
children so they can go to lagoon. During that day a variety of presentations were
held of music, dance, arts, food, discussions, and films to acknowledge and empower
the many refugees that came to the celebration.
During the Got Skillz Day I saw a lot of dances and music performed. The
dance that held my attention the most was the Hip Hop Dance and the Somalia
Dance. The Somalias danced in groups of four and they were all girls. The girls
moved their hips side to side with their arms up in a slow movement, as the dance

went on, their movement changed to a fast paste with their backs rotating clock
wise, they were shaking their backs and their chests in quick staccato movements,
they moved their hands up and down along with their back.
The girls collaborated into the same tempo as they cooperated in their
dancing style. In their dancing motions, they have a rope entwined around their
backs and pulling back on these ropes as they move.
The hip hop movement was combined with traditional Indian dance. The
dancers moved their hips and hands a lot while making their movement; they
collaborated into the same tempo as they performed their dance.
They juggled their knees and legs together; the hip-hop dancers took their
time to show their modern dance movements, using their arms, hands, and hips to
capture their movements. In their dancing motions, they used a rope entwined
around their hips and knees. Their slow movements were collaborated into the
same tempo as they cooperated in their dancing style. It was unique as the dancing
attracted all ethnic people who chose to dance with them to join in the dance
movements. Drums were used to accompany the dancers with a slow tempo beat
that was as if it was music..
In conclusion the fund rising was full of excitement with almost eighty people
attendance. The Art festival had participants demonstrating their dance, music,
food, clothing, and different lifestyles from their country.
