Text: Calculus and Its Applications, 10
th
edition, by Bittinger, Ellenbogen, and Surgent.

Software: MathXL will be used for computer homework assignments. The average of all MathXL homework will
count as one test score.

Course Description: This course is for business students. Major topics include limits, differentiation and integration
of algebraic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, areas and business applications of the preceding
topics.

Prerequisite: A C or better in College Algebra (MAC 1105).

Content: We will cover topics from Chapters R 4. The final exam will be comprehensive.

Calculators: Graphics calculators that do not calculate derivatives are strongly recommended. I will be using a
TI-83plus in class.

Grades: The final grade is the average of MathXL homework (This will count as one test grade.), 4 tests, and a
cumulative final exam. Each counts as 1/6 of your grade.

A - 90 100 I - An incomplete can be given if your grade is at least a C and for some
B - 80 89 good reason you are unable to complete the course.
C - 70 79
D - 60 69 W - If you withdraw from the course, you must do this on or before
F - 0 59 Thursday, November 6, 2014.
Attendance: Everyone is expected to be present, on time and prepared for each class meeting.

Make-up Tests: If you miss one test and have a valid reason for your absence, you will be given a cumulative
make-up test at the end of the semester. You must contact me before the class meets again in order to be eligible
to take the make-up test. If you miss a second exam for any reason, you will be given a zero.

Students with Disabilities: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, students requiring special
accommodation(s) due to a disability must register with Educational Services Division / Student Disability Services
office in order to receive eligible services. These offices are located in W-143 on the main campus or you may call
Rhoda Brant at (772) 462-7782 or Terry Valencia at (772) 462-7808. Students with documented disabilities may
also be eligible for additional academic services through Student Support Services (SSS) located in J-101 on the
main campus.

Cheating/Plagiarism: You will receive a grade of zero and/or will be taken before the Academic Review Board for
possible dismissal from school.

Office Hours: My office hours are posted on the door at A 115 and in A-130 at the Mueller Campus. Also,
office hours are available by appointment. Receive information about the Mueller Campus ASC tutoring lab at
www.muellerasc.weebly.com if you are not available during my office hours.

2. To introduce the student to differentiation for various types of functions and their applications.
