Unit of Inquiry 1 - Friendship

Who We Are. An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and
spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures;
rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Language
Language strands below will be introduced, integrated and reinforced in all areas of the inquiry throughout the day.
Teachers will apply a differentiation approach to cater for different developmental ability.

Speaking & Listening
Describe through telling about an item during Share Time (Show and Tell)
Socialise through participating in role play
Build a knowledge of common topics to which they can relate e.g. toys, family, community
Understand people speak and understand different languages
Use speaking and listening behaviours including looking at the speaker and speaking clearly

Viewing & Presenting
Use body language to communicate and convey understanding, for example, pointing, gesturing, and facial
expressions

Reading
Enjoy listening to stories
Choose and read picture books for pleasure
Make connections to their own experiences when listening to or reading texts
Join in with chants and poems

Writing
Experiment with drawing and writing using different writing implements and media

Music


In Music the children will learn clapping games,
focusing on keeping a steady beat, and sing
songs related to the Unit of Inquiry into play and
enjoying relationships with friends with the
music focus of pitch and tone.

Physical Education


During the first unit in Physical ducation we will
concentrate on the students getting to know each
other and begin to introduce some basic skills and
games that will be de!eloped throughout the
year. "e will also link into the classroom unit by
looking at appropriate ways to play and interact
together in Physical ducation classes.


Mathematics


Mathematical concepts

Counts to 10, and orders, reads and represents numbers in the range of 0-10
Names a circle, square, triangle, rectangle and oval
Collects data about themselves and their environment
Sorts objects into sets using one attribute
Compares groups by counting
Recognises the use of pictures as symbols to represent objects in data displays
Names the days of the week
Creates repeating patterns by cutting, tearing, pasting, drawing or painting

Vietnamese Language and Culture (VLC)

*Language focus: GREETINGS
- D3 will start their first VLC topic with greetings. During VLC lessons, the students will learn how
to greet their teachers and friends in Vietnamese through a variety of language games. They will
also learn how to sing some Vietnamese children songs.

*Culture focus: MOON FESTIVAL
- Moon Festival Focus on acknowledgement of the date and lantern decoration.
