Dear Parents,

My name is Shant Hill and I will be your childs

teacher this year. This is my third year at Edward Coles.
I grew up on the South side of Chicago with one sibling. I
graduated from Chicago State University in 2012 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. I am
currently pursuing my Masters in Curriculum and
Instruction at National Louis University with November
2014 as my completion date.
Over the past few years, I have become very aware of
a teachers impact. As students come to school, they are
handed over to the care of the teacher. I have always been
a huge supporter of frequent home-school communication.
It is my hope that this newsletter will be the beginning of
regular communication between you and I. You will be
informed of classroom activities, but I would like to
discuss your child individually.
My hope leads to a small request. Would you take the
time to jot down some thoughts about your child?
Strengths? Proudest moments? What are your hopes for
your child this year? Feel free to include more.
Why? I believe that when the teacher and parent
work together, the possibilities are endless! Please find
my contact information located on the next page. I look
forward to your letters.

REWARDS
Students have chances everyday
throughout the day to do positive things!
At every moment, I would like to provide
rewards that are as simple as verbal
shout-outs to positive phone calls to
parents. Students at the end of the day
will receive good behavior tickets that
they can turn in for prizes throughout the
year. Please check with your child to see
how many they have!

Classroom Website
Please make a visit our website
(mshill236.weebly.com) at least twice a
week to our classroom website. This
website provides you with Reading and
Math news and notes from my desk.
Students are also able to turn in their
book reports. Parents are able to contact
me 24/7 and a copy of this newsletter will
be available. Please check in between
today and this Friday on the Parent Page
so I know you have accessed the site. This
site provides daily news even though we

ASSIGNMENTS
Students should come to school every day ready to
work. Students will have an assignment in Reading and
Math EVERYDAY as well as homework every day. It is
recommended that students get one folder to hold their
important papers for you to review at night. This folder
may contain communications, homework, graded work,
etc. This newsletter will also be sent home every Monday
with the homework for the week.
Parents, please visit our website and the Parent
page to check-in. Please answer the survey as a way for
me to see who has visited. Yes, this is your second
assignment.
Schedule
I will send out the schedule for your child so you will
know what days they have Physical Education.
Restroom
We take two bathroom breaks during the day.
Please remind your child as leaving outside set break
time can cause them to miss instruction.
FIELD TRIPS
We are currently planning one educational field trip per
month. This will directly tie into the instruction during
the quarter. More information will be provided. A list of
the tentative field trips and their dates will follow.
Payment for these trips is recommended paid in full
during first quarter to ensure our spots are reserved.
