September 23, 2014 Faith Plvan Writing 307 Professor Writing Center 239 HBC Syracuse, New York 13210 Dear Professor Plvan: Im applying to take Writing 307 and I am excited to see that you would be my professor. Your credentials as the Assistant Director of the Writing Program, as well as your extensive experience, make me eager to become part of your team. I am a writing and rhetoric major at Syracuse University. Your professional writing class empowers a community of aspiring academic writers, architects, engineers, and business majors to communicate effectively in the workplace. As a community-minded person, I would embrace the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in learning to distinguish the differences between the classroom and workplace, as well as to work on projects that mimic actual workplace scenarios. While researching your teaching techniques, I noticed you value feedback from students. In my career as a full time student, Ive developed a keen appreciation for student/teacher and student/student relationships. I constantly ask questions and value progress. Since writing 307 will empower and enlighten me about the workplace, I am highly motivated to work with colleagues to meet deadlines and get work done. My strong leadership skills and desire to learn will enhance class discussion and group work. In order to improve as a writer, I have taken multiple writing classes, including Writing 104, 105, 205, and 255. Throughout the process of taking these writing courses I learned to work effectively in group activities, to analyze and evaluate texts, and to write persuasively and purposively. These are skills Ive worked to develop and would work to develop further as your student. Aside from the academic setting Ive worked in Graham Dining Hall where I learned to be punctual and adapt to changing scenarios. Im able to deal with multiple assignments at the same time and effectively communicate with different staff to maintain order. Is it possible to have a meeting with you to discuss next steps in entering the class? My contact information where you can reach me anytime at your leisure is 516 424 8117 or by email nrondon@syr.edu. My resume is also enclosed to further detail my qualifications.
