At the start of the lesson explain to students that theyll have the opportunity to test their punctuation skills via a website game. This activity will assist you to weed out any incorrect punctuation habits. It will also add to the cohesiveness of your stories and help you to achieve a better mark on the criteria. 2. Direct students to type in the web address: game http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2/english/spelling_grammar/punctuation/play/ and follow the instruction. Read sentence Choose the correct punctuation that is missing from the sentence Then using the mouse, move the hose left or right to the spot where you think the punctuation is supposed to be Then press the left mouse button to shoot the punctuation mark out of the hose and onto the sentence 3. Once students have completed the computer punctuation activity explain that if they have finished their rough draft they can start on their rewrites. 4. This is where you read over what you have written as if it is not work and fix any mistakes you see. 5. Once done have at least 2 other people read your story and make marks where they find grammatical mistakes 6. Remind them of the other features that help to tell the story and paint a picture in the readers mind e.g. photos- using their photos saved onto a USB brought from home 7. Model how to insert photos, adjusting size, use spell check, change the font etc. in a word document, to help students with the finishing touches. 8. Encourage students to bring in a USB that has photos of them/events so that they can insert these images into their stories to accompany their text as they type them up. 9. Notify students that this will be another element that theyll be marked, so make sure you put in an effort and be creative with the styling of your images, just as Lincoln Hall did in Alive in the death zone. 8.
