September 21, 2014 Assignment 1: Information Literacy
1 Part I & II:
I used Googles search engine to find the article. The New York Times article discussed Apples latest attempt for a virtual wallet. The downfall is that one must have the iPhone 6 or the Apple Watch to use this. Companies such as McDonalds, Target, and Visa have already teamed up with Apple to test and push this product. Apple says that security of credit card information is vital, so it will not be stored on the phone itself or Apple servers. However, Apple was not the first to dabble into virtual payment nor is it Apples first time doing so. Apple just happened to create a harmonious ecosystem that Google wasnt able to do as Carrington of Forrester said (New York Times). Part III: I used Bing and Yahoo search engines using to find articles relating to Apple Pay. Bing had fewer ads but I had to scroll to find a reputable source. They did have Apples website listed first but that article would have been biased. Yahoos search engine did have more ads and it did not have the company listed first; sites like CNN.com came up first. Part IV: In relation to the CNN article, it was put up on the site on September 10, 201 and was updated on the 13 th . This article is very similar to the initial article. The author is Jose Pagliery and his credentials are unknown, however he is a CNN Money reporter. The information is from a trustworthy source. It was later updated so the reporter likely made data inclusions. Unlike many other articles, this one explains how Apple is going to use Apple Pay. The article was written to inform consumers about a new way to pay with an iPhone 6. The information appears to be very objective; it discussed other companies previous attempts at virtual wallets. Part V: Using the CCBC database, I found two scholarly journals. One is directly related to Apple Pay, and the other is about Apples pervious attempt with the iPhone 4/4s. I used Apply Pay as the keyword to search for these journals. I used the Business Source Premier database because Apple Pay is primarily about finances through the use of technology. Part VI: 2 Both, the internet and journal articles were informative about Apple Pay but there are several differences. For instance, the journals took a financial view of the product whereas the internet articles described more of the technology behind it. All the articles I found came from reputable sources. The journals were harder to find since this technology was just released. So no one really had the chance to evaluate the product in full detail.
